Statement of Purpose to Apply for a Phd Program in Economics

¶ … Program in Economics Knowledge and learning is for me at the base of any process and I have dedicated most of my life to both. My initial preference for Physics, where I have obtained a B. Sc. With honors was directed towards a better understanding of the material world we live in and at how we can master the environment in order to achieve the best results from our interaction with it.

However, in time, I was more and more attracted by the financial markets and issues that seem to govern our society more and more. In the beginning a hobby and an interest, it became more and more of a passion. I have gained over the years an increasingly high interest in financial econometrics, incomplete market theory and statistical properties of price fluctuation in financial time series, gaining the conscience that a better understanding of these issues will help us better understand the way financial markets work.

I have thus decided to follow upon my initial interest and dedicate my time and expenses towards building a career as an econometrician, towards studying and understanding economic fluctuations and systems, towards creating mathematical models that may predict and forecast such changes. I am hopeful that my physics background will be of help and that I will be able to apply my knowledge form physics into the complex world of financial markets and economics.

To be perfectly honest, the learning and knowledge ambition I have is not only a selfish wish I may have. No, ever since I was a little child, I have been hoping to grow up one day and be an active member of my society, to help my country achieve better results and improve its living standard.

As of now, my country has developed a strong financial market for stocks and bonds and I am hoping my acquired knowledge will give me the possibility of contributing to an improved professional trading environment, as well as with beneficial forecasts on the market present in my country.

My desire is in itself two folded: I hope to contribute with my acquired knowledge and skills and, at the same time, I see the growing market in my country as a potential place for myself to start and build a career as an econometrist. Additionally, a Ph. D. In econometrics will hopefully give me the possibility of supporting my family, as they in turn have done for myself.

Indeed, I am hoping that such a degree will permit me to have a career profitable both financially and professionally and it seems only natural that I would also want my family to benefit from these improved conditions. My parents have always encouraged me and I want to repay them, even if only in part, for what they have done for me. A Ph. D. At such a prestigious university will make them proud as they will be the happy parents of the only student in my country with.
