Strategic management concepts and practices

Group work completed for the strategic management project involving "12 Angry Men" and "Pret a Manger" was a useful demonstration of teamwork. The purpose of this essay is to document my personal and individual opinions and ideas on the work itself. This essay will discuss the work process, the division of labor and ideas on how the process might be improved in the future.

Group work, for me, is great change of pace, because it allows others to peek in on how other students think and react to academic problems. This sharing of information is how new process are understood and the learning process begins to grow at exponential rates.

Our group specifically worked well. For us, a simple but fair division of labor was discussed and ultimately implemented. Brainstorming sessions were met with a sense of inclusion and new ideas were always adequately discussed before being implemented or rejected. Some members of the group did not suggest as many ideas as others but this does not denote an insufficient performance. Rather, group work allows for more efficient thinking and doing the does not require everyone to pour all their individual responses into the collective effort.

Even though I did not agree fully on the conclusions that the group developed in relation to 12 Angry Men, I felt that as a member of the group, and for practical reasons associated with formal schooling, that I should bury my head and hold my tongue and go along with the group. This sacrifice, if you will, was more or less intended at getting the job done as opposed with satisfying the urge to have my voice heard in this specific instant.

Working by myself is usually preferable because of my active imagination and my ability to come up with many differing and sometimes odd ideas. This was my primary role in this group as well. My skill in framing arguments from all sides of the issue came in handy when the group was just beginning to gather ideas on how to approach the subject. I myself came up with six different thesis on how to approach this project, of which one of them was uses in the official report after some modification.

My contributions were also used in the report as I was required to complete the final proofreading and editing of the submitted material. While others in the group took more of a leadership role in the project, I intervened when necessary and took more of a supporting role in this particular group.

Group work demonstrates the ability of students to work with others even though some disagreement is present. Our disagreements that we had on this group project rarely were severe and were quickly modified into consensus once a fair and calm discussion took place to resolve. it. Once egos and personal ambition is set aside, and more group orientated tasks are performed, group work tends to succeed.
