Patton states a new evaluator must know. Patton said that the evaluation situation provides the evaluator a chance to "focus an evaluation by appropriately matching the design, methods, measures…to the situation" (Patton). Daniel Stufflebeam agrees with Patton's assessment. He states that the new evaluator must know a number of different things, including "the meanings of formative and summative evaluation" (Stufflebeam). Knowing the differences between a formative and summative evaluation is not the only thing that a new evaluator should know, the evaluator should also understand when to use a formative or a summative evaluation and when to employ a certain methodology. All three evaluation scholars believe that tools, designs and methodologies are important to the evaluation process, and that creative thinking, technology and understanding the logic of evaluation "tends to improve performance" (Scriven).
Using the knowledge gained during the course leads this evaluator to understand the business monitoring process more completely especially in regards to customer feedback. The organization can track how the different products are used by the consumer with surveys, questionnaires and other tools, but the evaluator must know what the data presents to the company.

The data will assist the evaluator in knowing and understanding exactly how the product or service can be improved, which long-term will often enhance the viability of the organization.
