Technical Writing Ethical dilemma in technical writing Taylor came across an ethical dilemma in trying to decide whether or not she should release the falsehoods in the game's release. There are two possible solutions to her situation. If she decides to contact the marketing director regarding the game's flaws, she would most probably ruin Jake's prospects in the enterprise.
Conversely, if she chooses to go through with the false advertising campaign the firm as a whole would lose credibility in the eyes of the public and it would even be likely to go bankrupt as a result of losing investors. The contemporary society is accustomed to being presented with innovative technologies on a daily basis. This pressures software developers and technical writers to do anything in their power in order to comply with the public's expectations.
As a consequence, many companies fail to live up to their reputation because they do not have the technology available or because they gradually acknowledge the fact that it is impossible for them to finish a project in a short period of time. However, the general public learnt that technology constantly advances and that devices that presently seem unpromising are likely to turn into the next big thing after a few tweaks in the system.
Most of the latest games have been issued before their producers actually perfected them, this also being caused by the public's pressure. Marketing techniques are filled with propaganda because game producers know that this is one of the best methods for them to experience success. Later patches improve the game and practically make it what it should have initially been. It would thus be irresponsible for Taylor to prevent the game from being marketed with false advertising.
Its advertising is not actually false, as the game is in accordance with a few of its promoted characteristics, only that the company needs to perform a series of other modifications in order for it to live up to its advertising campaign. If all gaming companies were to wait until the products they issued were perfect, good games would be much rarer and profits would also go down significantly.
Taylor should look at this dilemma from a marketing writer's point-of-view, as this makes it possible for her to understand the fact that marketing virtually boosts the product's capacities. When considering the management's position regarding Jake's lack of enthusiasm regarding the moment when the game is issued, one can understand that companies work as a collective. Surely, Jake wants his work to be perfect.
However, he must understand that he is a part of a larger community, one that works as a team and knows when and how to perform changes in a program.
