Total Environmental Impacts Man has been in a close connection with the environment since the beginning of time, as every action that he or she performed depended on the natural surroundings. The damaging of the environment has never posed a serious threat for man until the last centuries when people began to observe the impacts that their actions had.

In these last hundreds of years the environment has been severely damaged because of the industrial revolution and of the fact that the number of increased due to the more favorable conditions. Mankind has walked the earth for tens of thousands of years, but has always had a non-significant role similar to other species. Evolution is a strong characteristic that man possesses and because of it things began to change as man began to invent a series of tools that would give aid in improving humankind's place in nature.

However, due to the gigantic size that our planet has, evolution has been slow until the number of people began to grow and interaction between people all around the world was made possible. Obviously, our planet cannot support an unlimited amount of people and for that reason the effects of overpopulation could be observed with the appearance of smog clouds over the bigger cities and several other consequences that pollution has had on nature.

Mankind stands as a biggest threat that earth has ever had from one of the species that inhabits it. E (total) stands for the total number of impacts that the environment has suffered and it is mainly the result of mankind's actions on planet earth.

The natural environment has been a major aid to man as it provided support with largely everything that was necessary for a safe existence. The P. factor in the equation represents the total population of people that are engaged in affecting the environment. The D. factor symbolizes the level of economic demand that the population has and it depends on the number of people that inhabit the earth. T stands for the technology used to exploit nature by the people in order to have everything necessary for surviving.

The equation is partly correct, but, in fact, it depends mostly on the population, as people tend to influence the environment with their constant evolution. During the early ages, people did not need a great deal of belongings in order to ensure their existence and instead they only needed things that could only take them through the day. Despite that, humans began to prove their superior intelligence with the invention of fire, wheel and other inventions which lead to evolution.

Evolution also lead people in creating more favorable conditions of living, thus they could live better and they were able to increase their numbers. As people began to interact, life became easier because of the fact that humans began to work together in order to improve their lives and the lives of their kin.
