As a replacement technology, the Zentral Home Command Remote system is competing for market share insofar as the market is defined through the functionality of the product, but as the Zentral system is the first product of its kind to be made widely available to the public it is also essentially creating its own demand in an entirely untapped market (Michaluk 2010). It would be incorrect, that is, to assert that the Zentral Remote system was in direct competition with traditional remote control manufacturers, but it would be equally shortsighted to assume that the product had no competition whatsoever. The competition comes in terms of convincing consumers to change entire technologies, and is not traditional competition. There are no major constraints facing the product launch except for the technology factor, which is admittedly hug in this instance. The Zentral Home Command Remote System is currently only available for Blackberries and iPhones, and though these are the two most common smart-phone brands at this time this technological issue will still have a large limiting effect on the number of consumers who will be interested in this product (RedOrbit 2010). The product's technology is ultimately limited by the number of smart-phone owning households in the first place, and by developing a system that is not compatible with all smart-phones the creators...

Though it is all but certain that the product's compatibilities will eventually be enlarged to encompass all smart-phone makes and models, the current planned launch will still be intrinsically limited by this technology problem.
Even the problems that the Zentral Home Command Remote system might face during its launch could be used to the company's benefit to some degree, however. By limiting the availability of the product to consumers that are typically at the forefront of new technology adoption -- i.e. Blackberry and iPhone users -- the Zentral Remote system can be tweaked and improved based on consumer response to the first models being introduced in the next few months, allowing for greater successes with a release to the wider public (RedOrbit 2010).

The higher and more immediate the impact of the launch is with the target population of consumers, the more effective the product launch will be in establishing market dominance with a growing majority of the public (Burgelman et al. 2008; Kapp 2009).
