This, coupled with a natural aptitude for problem solving, has allowed me to develop an acumen that is broadly relevant to business and organizational management. Throughout my career, I have demonstrated a strong analytical mindset and applied valuable research skills, including expertise in organizational transformations, human resource management, inventory control, materials management, and IT integration, among others.

One of the skills most relevant to this position is communication. I communicate skillfully even when the information is technical and complex in nature. I have learned to convey such information clearly and concisely, including preparing effective proposals, reports, and presentations using charts and graphs, as well as developing policies, writing staff summaries, talking points, and procedures, and managing and facilitating training sessions. I have had the opportunity to communicate from many different positions within an organization and through nearly every medium imaginable. This skill enables me to effectively manage teams and conduct comprehensive training programs to deliver new competencies when needed.

In that role, I demonstrated superior strategic leadership and program management by directing all deployment functions, including manning and deployment logistics in support of more than 250 contract personnel worldwide. I also worked to optimize the achievement of operational objectives by developing detailed plans, establishing goals, and analyzing, balancing, and reconciling program requirements with available resources while providing technical oversight as needed.

Why Pursue an MBA in Technical Management

The Master of Business Administration program will allow me to elevate my career to the next level. Although my twenty-one years in the U.S. Army provided me with many skills and the opportunity to work in demanding environments, my commitment to further career development has never been stronger. My background and experience have given me a platform from which I can make effective use of the training the program offers. There is some debate about whether an MBA is more valuable early in one's career or whether it is better to gain real-world experience before entering a program.

From my perspective, having a background in a high-performance organization can accelerate the acquisition of skills and continued learning. The skills I have already developed can serve as a foundation upon which even more advanced competencies can be built. In today's high-tech and competitive environment, it is important for a candidate to identify a specific niche for specialization. Although a generalist knowledge base is undoubtedly valuable, having a specialization is an important tool in career development, as it allows an individual to distinguish themselves from the competition. My background and experience will provide a base from which I can further develop my own professional niche and continue my career advancement. Beyond these considerations, I also feel that earning a Master's in Business Administration will open new doors in my career path. In today's competitive workforce, a majority of applicants will have a bachelor's degree, and this level of education has essentially become the norm. Many positions that carry greater responsibility require graduate degrees as a prerequisite. Since I am motivated to continually develop my career and pursue roles with increasing responsibility, the MBA program represents a natural next step. Not only will I be able to further develop and refine my skill set, but I will also demonstrate to potential employers that I can succeed in an even broader range of environments. With all of these considerations in mind, the more relevant question becomes not why I would want to pursue an MBA, but why I would not — as this path aligns naturally with my professional ambitions and personal goals.
