What makes this paper effective

  • Grounds each trend (video, AI, SaaS) in specific, named platforms such as Vidyard, Wistia, HubSpot, and Salesforce, giving the argument practical credibility rather than staying purely abstract.
  • Connects marketing technology directly to leadership decision-making, showing that resource allocation and organizational awareness are prerequisites for capitalizing on new tools.
  • Uses a concrete hypothetical scenario (a company integrating video hosting with CRM and a chatbot) to illustrate how individual tools combine into a strategic system.

Key academic technique demonstrated

The paper demonstrates applied analysis: it takes broad industry trends, grounds them in cited sources, and then traces their practical implications upward through organizational leadership and downward into specific tool configurations. This "trend → environment → tool" structure models how marketing analysis should flow from observation to strategic recommendation.

Structure breakdown

The paper is organized into three thematic sections. The first introduces video, AI chatbots, and SaaS platforms as the dominant emerging trends. The second examines how these shifts alter the external business environment and why leadership must stay informed. The third section evaluates how modern marketing tools enhance business strategy through data-driven lead generation and personalization, closing with a brief note on applying the same tools to social change initiatives.

Emerging Trends in Modern Marketing

There are a number of different trends emerging in marketing, and those involved in the craft should be aware not only of these changes but of their implications as well. The first is video. Social media in particular has become a major forum for video in marketing. This includes platforms such as Facebook Live and YouTube, as well as more sophisticated marketing solutions like Wistia's pro plans, Vidyard, and Brightcove. Video is another means by which a company can tell its brand story, and there is evidence that the use of video in marketing is not just on the rise but is effective as well, since most audiences find video content more engaging than other forms of content (Sharma, 2017).

Artificial intelligence is another major development, and that includes the use of smarter chatbots. These pop up on screen to help pull visitors to a website into the marketing funnel more quickly, and they have proven to be quite effective (Grennan, 2017). Chatbots also provide an opportunity for a brand to tailor its experience, setting up various scripts to help move prospects through the funnel more efficiently. They are expected to be increasingly incorporated into apps and websites in the coming years.

These trends build on the ongoing shift toward content marketing and the use of SaaS tools to support marketing initiatives. These tools allow companies to coordinate their efforts across web pages, blogs, social media, and email campaigns more easily, and to track response rates more effectively as well. Features like lead scoring mean that much of the work once done manually in marketing departments — including high-level coordination between different approaches — is now nearly fully automated and can be executed from anywhere over the internet.
