When it comes to planning the future, my weakness shows because there are many factors that are continually changing that I need to take into consideration. For example, if we decide to relocate for any reason, will I want to continue this career in another setting? If the family has other needs — such as schooling — that arise, how will this affect my career? What choices am I prepared to make, and what goals am I prepared to pursue or sacrifice if necessary? Arranging priorities is something I know how to do, but balancing work options, career aspirations, and family life is a challenge I need to address more assertively by having open discussions with my family so that there is greater transparency and communication.
Nonetheless, I attempt to position myself well so that I am prepared for whatever move needs to be made, whether for my career, my family, or simply for myself. In this way, I maintain a flexible outlook and keep an upbeat, positive attitude that is life-affirming and goal-oriented on several fronts.
My personal journey disciplines include a plan to participate in managing councils that promote shared leadership. This is an important part of developing one's career and taking on greater responsibility, and I am very active and supportive of this step. I also take part in action learning exercises used to problem-solve workplace issues. Another strength of mine is that I take time to reflect on these exercises and examine myself on a personal level to assess whether the best decision was made. I have no difficulty withholding judgment and am able to process and retain a number of different perspectives simultaneously as I search for the most accurate rendering of a situation.
I love to discover new potential in others and in myself, and I view learning and education as an adventure I am always eager to pursue. I have many life experiences to draw upon and have had many friends and family members with whom I could discuss those experiences and grow over the years. This helps me to reflect, adapt, and transition over time from one chapter to the next, whether in my personal life or work life. I enjoy nurturing both the intellectual and emotional sides of myself and take time to do both, recognizing that this is an essential part of staying whole.
My one weakness in this area is keeping commitments to myself, because I tend to place commitments to others before my own needs. However, I recognize that a balance is necessary — I will not be good for others if I do not first ensure my own needs are being met. It is therefore important for me to renew and regenerate my body, mind, health, and spirituality on a consistent and continual basis.
