Oral Hygiene Educational Assessment Tools

There is a significant amount of research that shows statistical correlation between oropharyngeal bacterial colonization and the presence bacteria responsible for ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP). Several interventions have been shown as effective in reducing the incidence of VAP, but many have not gained widespread clinical use in a majority of hospitals. Over the years, hand hygiene has been advocated for but, compliance is still low among the health workers. However, hand hygiene has been practiced more as the years go by and as people learn about the importance of hand hygiene. Although hand hygiene is considerably simple, it requires self discipline from the health workers to comply with the policies.

Objective of this project is to develop the implementation plan to carry out the hand hygiene policy within the hospital setting to reduce the incidence of health care-associated infections. The proposal will implement the sensitization of healthcare providers towards adherence of new policy. Successful hand hygiene policy will be achieved through the implementation of multiple actions to address the behavioral barriers.
