A personal success plan can serve as the foundation for a successful career. In fact, there are so many qualified professionals in the workforce today that a personal success plan is more of a requirement than a luxury. With this in mind, coupled with the training I recently received, my personal success plan was prepared in various stages. I first identified that my career ambitions and working style place me in the adhocracy field of Mintberg's model. I then used this as a background that offered other insights that are also included in my personal success plan including items such as working to be more disciplined in different areas of my professional requirements as well as learning to better…

Personal Success Plan
Personal success begins with determination and the utter most desire to achieve something in the coming time. This also includes chalking out plan for a long-term career-growth and shedding some sprinkles of reality on one's dreams and aspirations. As Stephen Iscore (1998) thinks, "You are here for a purpose; God doesn't just make extras to fill in the scenery" (para.2). Having a clear mind set is very necessary to polish-up one's talents and hone any further skills which are required for the accomplishment of a successful career. One has to determine of what specific goals he or she has to achieve and then dedicate one's self into the attainment of those goals with unswerving singleness of purpose like the trenchant zeal of a crusader (Meyer, 2011). This discussion will elaborate on the role of tools, techniques and experiences one may have to concentrate deeply on to augment…

Where I see myself being prevented from climbing the business ladder was in the fact that I did not have a master's degree. This is really what I knew I needed to obtain in order to get where I wanted to be professionally. I had the experience that I needed, but I also needed the MBA. My ambition to go far in business have always been great, but it wasn't until I got to a certain level in my career that I realized I needed the full package in order to compete on the level that I wanted.
I would love to build a company that matches government subsidies with private money to build green residential and commercial structures. One of the reasons I went to Wells Fargo was because, unfortunately, financing is nearly impossible to obtain for development projects due to the present economic climate. This is, perhaps, one…
Career Plan
After some serious, and not-so-serious, formal, and informal, types of soul searching, I have a much stronger sense of who I am and where I am going. Over the past ten weeks, I have encountered, interacted with, applied, and leveraged a number of core principles that will help me succeed and continually reinforce what I have learned. For example, Terrace Martin never uses the word "failure." Will I be able to stop using the word failure in my life? All it takes is mental discipline, and the courage to say no to negative thought patterns that create failure in the first place. There is no such thing as failure, because just the act of pursuing our dreams each day is a sign of personal success. Likewise, pursuing our dreams each day means taking personal responsibility for our lives and our reality. We do not need to blame others…
Multiple Intelligences on Personal Success
Multiple Intelligences
In the early 1980s, Howard Gardner first developed his ideas regarding multiple intelligences. His theory posits that each human has pluralistic intelligence -- that intelligence manifests in many ways at once. The theory of multiple intelligence leads to new ideas and perspectives regarding topics in education including types of learners, methodology, and philosophy of education. Gardner classifies the types of intelligences as follows: logical-mathematical; spatial; linguistic; bodily-kinesthetic; musical; interpersonal; intrapersonal; naturalistic; and existential. In an ideal world, each person would develop all their intelligences evenly and developed into truly well-rounded people who are highly capable and flourish. Just from reviewing the list of intelligences, a reader can easily imagine how the development or retardation of certain intelligences play out in one's life and how their development (or lack) has the potential to contribute to a person's success or failure. At first review of…

A pattern of personal success begins with a plan. Planning is, in fact, one of the core principles of leadership in any field. In Principle-Centered Leadership, Stephen Covey (1992) states, "careful planning helps us maintain a sense of perspective, purpose, and ordered priorities," (p. 77). Without perspective, purpose, and ordered priorities, one can become distracted, discouraged, and dismayed when their goals have yet to be met. Covey's flagship book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People includes several references to the importance of planning. In fact, several of the Seven Habits are related to the importance of planning and strategizing for success. The first set of habits is related to self-mastery and independence. Cultivating self-mastery and independence requires three core habits, according to Covey: being proactive, beginning with the end in mind, and putting first things first. A personal and professional development plan hinges on these three habits of…

Team Communication
Best and Worst Practices: Team Communication
In today's workplace there are an unprecedented number of ways for team members to communicate. These options can range from face-to-face meetings, to email, to video chat, to instant messaging, text, and the list goes on and on. There are so many different ways to communicate that choosing one can be a daunting task. Each form of communication has its own set of inherent advantages and disadvantages. Both email and text are both efficient and convenient however it is often difficult to place the information from these sources into context. Much of the information in emails is subject to misinterpretation or sometime it is glanced over altogether.
One worst practice that I have witnessed is a group member sending an email to try to convey something urgent and really important. However, when the receiver gets this email they do not interpret the…
Ideally, I hope that my formal education will enable me to identify the best use of my natural talents and interests so that my eventual career goals allow me to pursue a direction that is intrinsically fulfilling, but in some field or position where my work also serves a purpose that is worthwhile in terms of accomplishing something more than making a profit. I would consider my life to have been "successful" to the extent I was able to provide for my family's needs and also contribute something meaningful to others as well. Achieving those two goals in a manner that also happens to fulfill a personal interest simultaneously would be the ultimate in personal success in…
Personal communication skills, as exemplified by talk show host Larry King, are crucial to success in today's interconnected world. King, one of America's most successful communicators, provides a valuable example of successful communication skills that have brought him world renown as a broadcaster, successful book career, and influence in the political arena. It is through the example of individuals like King that we can learn not only the value of personal communication skills, but the specifics of some of the most important of these skills. King himself notes that personal communication skills are based on a number of factors such as honesty, interest, attitude, and openness. Successful adaptation of such skills can help the individual both on a personal and professional level.
Larry King is one of America's best known talk show hosts. He hosts the well-known Larry King Live, the world's first phone-in television talk show. Larry King live…

Personal Perspective on Changes That Occur Throughout Early, Middle, And Late Adulthood
One of the more interesting things about aging is just how differently people go about the process. In my experience, many people seem to grow older and change very little from their early to late adulthoods as a result, keeping the same interests, friends, spouse, home and job for years and years. For instance, I know one elderly widower, "Mark," who has conducted petroleum engineering seminars in several states nine months a year for more than 30 years. Besides some minor administrative work and continuing education, Mark has the rest of the year to himself and he participates in a number of leisure and recreational activities, some of which he takes seriously. For instance, Mark is still an accomplished ballroom dancer despite his somewhat advanced age (73 years), and he has played tournament bridge games in Las Vegas…
I studied there for two years and then again relocated to complete three years of college at California State Northridge.
My five years of education at these two universities, as well as my education in Australia have exposed me to many varied international peoples and has further broadened my understanding of the diversity of language and culture. As a student I am clearly focused on group work as an essential element of success in education and demonstration of knowledge and this has been greatly influenced by my exposure to many cultures and friendships with many diverse individuals. Group work is also essential in business and I hope that my focuses as a business/finance major in group work success will aide me extensively in my career.
Within the development of my personal and educational life I was drawn to Finance as a professional and degree goal. I have extended this commitment…
My work as a research assistant in a cognitive psychology lab added to my theoretical knowledge by giving me practical experience in encoding and analyzing data. This experience provided me with the opportunity to use analytical tests and interpret statistical data. Bookkeeping of participants' demographic information also further developed my organizational skills. Having been a research assistant, I have gained a reasonable understanding of research design and the statistics needed to conduct research. For my senior major project, I wrote a research paper on an empirical study that investigated the role of change detection in studies of visual attention in the field of cognitive psychology. This paper was awarded the Sharon Borine award for the best major project in Psychology because of its successful presentation of research and adherence to American Psychology Association guidelines. I strongly believe my research experience will help me attain success in conducting graduate research as…
Despite the fact I was preparing students for a standardized exam, I take pride in the fact that I tried to grasp what unique pedagogical strategies were required to enable them to master the material.
A seek further education in developmental psychology and general educational theory to build upon my natural strengths as an educator and communicator. My experiences have been diverse, spanning all grades as a substitute teacher in a variety of areas as well as my preparatory work with adult GED students. This exposure to students in a wide range of developmental stages has helped me see how the learning process develops over time, as basic skills make a foundation for students to learn new concepts. But sometimes, if these core concepts are lacking, a teacher can learn to help the student remedy past academic deficits. I have also worked as a tutor on a one-on-one basis with…
Given my experiences at Chinatown Teen Post and Blue Phone Wireless, I am very excited about my future prospects in management. Academic skills are valuable for learning business operations, but real-world experience adds missing ingredients needed to fully understand success such as knowing how valuable personal happiness, social responsibility and customer satisfaction really are. I am eager to contribute my wisdom and leadership to the business community after receiving formal business training at the University of California.
I believe that the most important contribution I can bring to the University of California is my great respect for all individuals. Many people assume characteristics and create an image of a person they don't even know. As humans we tend to judge people very quickly based on their sex, race, ethnicity or social class. And, we love to judge people according to their image because it means so much in our society…
Positions such as Administrative Assistant and Front Office Manager for Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean International consequently strengthened my job qualifications and established me as an effective communicator.
My main goal as a Front Office Manager and Customer Representative was to establish credibility. Due to my people-orientation skills I was able to effectively measure - with maturity - those circumstances surrounding my communications, including situational and cultural context. Through hard effort, patience, and serious consideration of the multi-national environment in which I was required to operate and engage, I consequently adopted an individual style of communicating.
My daily tasks included messages conveyed through channels; verbal face-to-face meetings, telephone, written letters, e-mails, memos, and reports were but a few of the communication opportunities encountered.
Clearly recognizing the actions or reactions influenced by my message, I worked to ensure that my communication was always unambiguous and clear. Keeping in mind that people…
There is little doubt that less structured, alternative environments can be extremely useful for some learners. However, implementing those elements on a wider level would be very detrimental by virtue of the consequences in relation to more typical students who require a structured learning environment to overcome the many natural challenges to their academic success.
Self-Esteem Support
There is no doubt that (1) adolescence is a time of particularly sensitivity in the psychological, psychosocial, and emotional development of individuals, and that (2) self-image and self-esteem levels correspond to academic performance and subsequent success and happiness in life. Therefore, as educators, one of our most important tasks is to support the healthy psychological, psychosocial, and emotional development of all students through appropriate support and encouragement in every aspect of educational environments.
Self-Assessment Response repare a personal educational philosophy statement. Teachers/principals are asked many times throughout their careers to prepare an educational…
The process was also significant for me because it showed that it was possible to spread wealth from a highly centralized location (the corporation) to a more widespread and evenly distributed location (my financially struggling high school).
Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud, and how does it relate to the person you are?
I believe that my greatest quality is perseverance. History is often told to us as the chronicle of great people doing great things, and while these stories are important, the majority of us experience life through smaller moments. It is the small choices and the small decisions that add up over time to create our life as a patchwork of these choices. Our choices and decisions define who we become, and ultimately it is the sum of all…
According to the Kohlberg theory, the post-conventional level is when a person develops social contract orientation and becomes principled. I believe I felt that I owed society an obligation to work and try to make it better, so I sought public welfare work (Fowler, p. 56).
Eventually, a better job opportunity came to me in the form of a state job in the Department of Youth and Family Services, so I decided to leave the school system. I transferred from my city job and was able work in my chosen field. Between working there and at Families Matter, New Jersey, I learned quite a bit. I would spend hours with parents who did not have the skills to help themselves and children who were in crisis. This motivated me even more to finish my bachelor's degree. This experience made me realize how lucky I was to have supportive family and…

Personal elief and Experiences
Quizzes, tests, presentations, books reports, scantrons, number two pencils, stress, all-nighters, parents quizzing their children, tutors, among other things are all words that the general public associates with tests; but, to delve deeper into the dreaded word "assessment" there are pros and cons that help society realize the importance of assessments in school.
Assessments are imperative to curriculum teaching and are an essential component because students can gather strategies from the assessment taking and utilize those skills in the short- and long-term to achieve success. For instance, important strategies learned when taking an assessment include staying focused and relaxed, "expecting and accepting a little bit of stress," reading and following directions, pacing oneself, not rushing through the assessment, among other things (PS, 2005). These are important skills to foster through the schooling as these eventually are vital and highly applicable to the "real world" that students…

My parents determined that I should go to the United States, because they felt that the U.S. provided a more sophisticated and forward-looking business administrative education. My father was quite successful in China as a businessman, but he believed that the world was changing, and that it was essential that his child have some grounding in the new economic reality of the global marketplace to become equally successful. He also felt that China's view of the international marketplace was not as sophisticated as America's, and that an aspiring entrepreneur could gain much from learning about the American perspective and system of management.
During my father's lifetime, he saw capitalism take root in his home country, altering China for the better. China, through fits and starts, became freer, more open to new ideas and ways of life, more prosperous, and more tolerant of different ways of looking at the world. Through…
Every school supervisor knows that improving teaching and learning is always the goal of every school, and finding the right applications for progress toward better outcomes should be a collaborative and constant strategy unique to each school environment.
In conclusion, collaboration is not a concept unique to the educational setting; indeed, any organization should embrace the idea of collaboration rather than strict hierarchal strategies. But when it comes to educational settings, an administrator working in collaboration with teachers to develop curricula, to solve problems, to create stronger formulas for learning, is a far better tactic than top-down leadership where demands and orders are the rule of the day.

Personal Observations: Class Size vs. Quality Instruction
I am not able to neatly separate my preparation and reading in the area of educational quality from my personal experience. The two sources of knowledge dovetail and flow back and forth in a highly influential manner. I certainly agree that class size is a factor in student success, and a variable that can enable or hinder the ease with which a teacher provides quality educational opportunities for her students. My teacher preparation coursework and my reading on education policy lead me to believe that them most important variables -- next to the influences of home and community -- are those under the aegis of teachers.
Teacher qualifications are a critical variable for student success. Naturally, the amount of resources available to a school, district, region, or state impact the level of quality that is provided to students through educational systems. One has…
Insomuch, I have worked closely with customers on a myriad of issues to ensure their needs were met. Such concern for my constituents has transcended to an elevated level of service for individuals in the healthcare field.
Additional Information for Consideration
Although I may not be a traditional candidate, I have always worked hard to attain my goals. egardless if goals seemed to be unreachable, I have always persevered in the most trying of conditions. Pierce (2003) defines nursing quite well, "Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, the prevention of illness and injury, and the alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response and advocacy in the care of individuals families, communities, and populations. Moreover, nursing addresses the organizational, social, economic, legal, and political factors within the healthcare system and society. These and other factors affect the cost, access, and quality of…

As rewarding as that experience was, not all of my work at the adoption agency was as satisfying. Most people understand that any adoption process -- especially when it occurs internationally -- is a long and complicated process that must deal with significant layers of bureaucracy. Success is, unfortunately, not necessarily guaranteed. But when adopting families are only a few weeks away from receiving their new children, we all begin to assume that adoptions will go through and we will have helped create many new families. Thus, it was especially devastating for all of us at the agency, not to mention the families involved, when two weeks before a new batch of Chinese children was meant to arrive, the Chinese government decided against letting the children leave the country. In hindsight, the reasons are unimportant; no rational explanation could have assuaged the grief of the families who had expectantly and…
Personal Marketing Plan
Current Marketing Situation: I am graduating school and entering the workforce. My previous work experience is somewhat limited, mainly to retail work, but I have a solid education from a great school. I have a degree in marketing and this has prepared me for a career in marketing, advertising or possibly sales management. My present job is inadequate for my new education level. I like the people I work with, but the pay and the nature of the tasks are more suitable for someone with less experience and education. I believe that with a better education, I am prepared to take on positions of responsibility and to begin a progressive career path.
SWOT Analysis: I have a lot of different strengths upon which I draw to succeed. I am organized and intelligent, and this allows me to accomplish the things that I need to accomplish, on time…
Combined with my aptitude in biology, chemistry, and calculus, I resolved to return to school and get my nursing degree.
I am about to embark upon a new chapter and a new experiment in my life, far more daring than any of the risks I took in my business career. However, I think there will be a great deal of cross-over of skills between my past and current profession. The long hours, attention to others at the occasional expense of my own needs, and the relentless drive for quality improvement and improving my own abilities were relevant in business and will remain important in the field of nursing. Moreover, the business knowledge that was so helpful to me in my former career can also be translated into a nursing career. Nurses are more encouraged than ever to look over their work with a critical eye to cost-cutting, efficiency and waste…

This was the fifth time I was examining myself in the mirror today. I guess people were right when they teased me and continuously passed comments. A closer look helped me notice my protruding stomach, the double chin and the heavy thighs. I was lonely in fact the reason of this feeling was my body. Devastated, I stood besides the window for some cool breeze to freshen me up but alas! All I saw were restaurants and luxuries. Munching cookies, chips, sodas, burgers and sitting all day were amongst my top priorities. I switched on the television and the show was all about obesity and the damage it does to the health. For a moment it looked like an old story which people hear from the day they are born. It never mattered to me until a day when everything affected me. This was probably because…
Personal Circumstances
Even the perfect adolescence would be difficult -- it's hard to imagine young life today, in even the kindest of families, without struggles about identity, without fights about determining what one's future vocation might be, and simply arguing with one's parents. These are all typical pursuits of the typical adolescent, to say nothing of self-imposed and socially imposed academic pressures, and the pressures of preparing one's resume for college.
And my adolescence was far from perfect or typical.
Still, success in school has always been of great importance to me. I have always desired to become an art major, and eventually pursue a career in architecture. I have always wished to become a successful professional, and to learn more about the study of beauty and self-expression through the medium of art. I have always been aware that the only way for me to enlarge my personal interests in…
Death anxiety was given a broad definition and seemed to point to how one dealt with the death of others also. I found that I did not deal with death very well. Mainly because I was not able to know my real father, and I felt betrayed by the man who was my actual father when I had to experience the abuse that my family went through. It was an ordeal because my father died, but it was a bigger ordeal because of the revelations that came afterwards. I found that one can regress from a level of maturity when a major negative event occurs.
I look back at my life through the prism of these two theories and there is not much that I regret, even though there were some significant bumps along the way. I agree with the precepts because I can see a lot of what both…

During times of serious fractures or illnesses of the animals, a veterinarian used to visit the ranch. I would observe and learn as much as I can to know how to: set fractures, assist in performing surgeries along with helping to euthanize the animals that were unable to be treated. As these different elements are an important part of what: a veterinarian has to do on the job. In some cases, veterinarians used to come to the ranch, to consult with the owner about various issues related to: the feeding, breeding, housing and other issues surrounding the animals. All of this would help to give me more experience in: working with animals and diagnosing various problems that are affecting them. At which point, I could help to give them comfort and ensure that they were treated humanely.
As a result, life on the ranch transformed me into a completely independent…
Also, my background will allow for a unique viewpoint, as I was raised in Turkey and am fluent in French and English. My academic successes and leadership roles include serving as president of the honor board in my Turkish high school, while also representing the students on the school's disciplinary committee. Thus, my academic interests are founded in the industries if engineering and construction, while also focusing on the importance of economics, commerce, and sociology in these areas.
In addition to my academic interests, my real-life experience and future career goals have prepared me for this program. After spending eight weeks as an intern for this firm, which is a respected name in the industry, not only had the know-how, but also the tools to continue in…
Personal Statement
It is very clear to me the demands medical school has upon a person's time and character. Though I am well aware that nothing I do beforehand can fully prepare me for the experience of medical school, I have made substantial efforts to build my character as well as prepare my mind and body for the adventure of medical school.
One of the most valuable experiences a person can participate in is to volunteer, which is one reason why I have a variety of volunteer activities. Practicing medicine and being a licensed physician is, for me, a kind of civil service -- an overt dedication to one's community. I do not believe that any person, particularly a person who intends to be a doctor should wait until the formal training commences for the doctor's dedication to the community to begin.
As part of my discipline and preparation for…
, 2007). The more I understand about the strategic objectives that senior management has for the project, the more I will be able to tailor that project to meet their objectives. This in turn leads to a high degree of support at the highest levels of the organization for my work. I feel that this is critical, and emphasize this in my consulting.
There are, however, some areas where I can improve my consulting skills as well. For example, I do not always make the best use of ongoing consulting arrangements. This is a valuable source of income for a consultant, but I often either fail to pursue it or when I do I am unable to set out terms that are beneficial to me. For example, I should make use of formal contracts and service level agreements (Goo, et al., 2009), but I think the ones that I have…

Target has shown a unique ability to brand itself as an upscale discount store. I believe the knowledge I gained from my experience at this corporation will be an asset to my fellow students in class discussion. Graduate study in communications management will provide me with the necessary intellectual and analytical tools to capitalize upon my experience that I learned at Target, hopefully taking some of my experiences at that successful enterprise and putting them to good use in other venues.
After completing my major in Marketing Communications at my university I worked for Sears as a Merchandise Analyst. This deployed both my communications and analytical abilities. Although the Sears Corporation has been less successful as of late in the marketplace than Target, I believe I functioned as an asset for the organization in the immediate locality I served. The experience I gained was invaluable in terms of understanding what…
The exploration of phenomena is a desire that has been stirred in my heart. There a so many different problems and challenges in the occupational therapy arena that research is obligatory. I believe that I have the right academic foundation to be successful at research projects. I am a member of the psy chi honor society starting from January 2010. I graduated with a GPA of 3.52 from the Miami Dade College, and in my present Bachelor of Psychology program, my GPA is 3.4. Consequently, I am of the view that my performance academically is meritorious and provides me with the adequate basis to engage in research work.
Giving back to society is a pillar upon which I have built my life and is a core value I espouse. When you are a beneficiary of the largess of others, it is an imperative that you allow other persons to profit from your good fortune. Accordingly, I engage in volunteer work wherever I can. I have volunteered for programs such as the Psychosocial Developmental Interventions. This program focuses on adolescents who are identified as at risk or who have manifested certain types of problems. Working with adolescents is taxing and simultaneously deeply gratifying. To expand my experiential knowledge I also worked with therapy centers as the Galloway home and the ABC therapy center. I volunteered at these centers for two 6-month periods. At the Leon Medical center, I worked directly with patients from 2005 to 2007.
I have a general love for life and a strong belief in the tenacity of the human spirit. A place at FIU would be the beginning of my journey into the accumulation of personal skills and training that will be directed to serving humanity. In this regard, FIU therefore is the facility that will give wings to my dreams and fledging passions. The combination of academic excellence and a student hospitable environment provides the ideal climate for the pursuit of excellence. I eagerly anticipate advancing my academic career as a graduate student at FIU.
Personal Statement
Up until now I have not thought of what the future has in store for me however, I dream that I become somebody, not an ordinary seventeen-year-old American, that I am today, but someone who has achieved something in life, through dedication and hard work. Superior education is the chance through which I can reach my objectives.
My parents are regular middle class folks who have vision of making their children more successful in life then they ever were. And because of our Vietnamese ancestry, the drive to attain the American Dream has intensified for us. Moreover, I will be the first one to attend college, it becomes doubly important. I lived in Jersey City the first ten years of my life. Then we moved to Secaucus, were we live presently. My brother and I have literally grown up here. Spending my formative years of Junior high and…
My organizational skills have led me to construct a strategy to accomplish these objectives. I feel that making a contribution is something you need to do every day. It does not need to be a large contribution every day, but some contribution should be made.
Another key component to my strategy will be actively seeking those areas in which I can make the most difference. There are so many opportunities to contribute to society, and I feel that if I am able to choose the right ones for me, I will make the greatest contribution. In order to identify these opportunities I must continually educate myself with regards to my community. I want to understand it and its needs. This will help me find out where I belong.
I feel that my statement is based on timeless, proven principles. Integrity and a hard work ethic have helped to build this…

Thus, by using questionnaires, the company can find out what changes have occurred as a result of their communication initiatives. While it may not longer still be appropriate to consider college an opportunity to explore "life" more broadly, it is still an environment where exploring different academic interests (or potential interests) in order to determine where one's greatest aptitude and intellectual interest lie is perfectly appropriate. Admittedly, it may be that some students (such as those with narrow and clearly defined areas of interest) should not necessarily be required to take certain "core curriculum" courses. However, the mature approach is simply to appreciate the opportunities that a higher education will provide and to consider core courses a necessary nuisance if one must.
With the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, I would have worked a little harder in high school to give myself the best chances of qualifying for more financial aid because that expands your choices of colleges. If I learned anything from my experiences working low-wage, menial jobs, it is…

Personal Social Status
Social status can be defined as the reference, prestige, or honor ascribed to an individual's personality or position in society. It could be attained by virtue of family or racial background; or through innate ability or life achievements. Some other factors that determine one's social status include gender, occupation, religion, lifestyle, and education.
While culture is usually defined as a way of life of a group of people within a geographical setting, however, there also exists an individual level of culture known as personal culture. Personal culture is usually an expression of one’s personal beliefs or philosophy and perspective on life issues generally. It is usually a reflection of an individual’s upbringing; which is made up of culture, lifestyle and belief system the person is exposed to. Others are gender, history, education, residency location, and disability (“Social Categories”).
It is common for one's culture to be predominantly…
My parents and I worked hard enough for me to attend the University of Benin in Nigeria, where I earned a degree in sociology. After leaving the university, I taught high school in a rural village as a part of the national youth corps program. It was here that the cultural heritage of hard work paid off the most, as I was able to see it at work in both myself and my students, who were as eager to learn as I ever was. We pushed each other harder all the time, striving towards a better understanding of the reasons why we were the ways we were, and why the world was the way it was. It is a thirst for these understandings that I believe lies at the heart of all quests for knowledge. This is especially true of modern Ibo culture, that had answers to many of these…

While I have always valued the idea of having a college education, it has not always been easy for me to pursue due to a learning disability. My struggles with this disability in college have been quite challenging and it has taken me years of frustration and hard work -- as well as a lot of self-understanding -- to learn how to not only cope with these struggles, but to be able to rise above them. The struggles with this disability have tested my character and have made me a stronger person, which I am very proud to say.
Despite the fact that I have struggled with this learning disability, it has not held me back in the workforce. I am very proud of my…

Contrasting military and civilian leadership
How first, personal successes influence leadership
Four-star General Curtis LeMay is one of the most controversial figures in the history of the modern U.S. Air Force. LeMay's philosophy can be summed up as follows: it is more advantageous and ultimately more compassionate to use massive levels of force against the enemy. This results in a quicker victory and ultimately preserves more civilian lives. However, LeMay's legacy as a military leader is complex. On one hand, he is credited with speeding the end of World War II, thanks to his superior leadership style, tactical ability and boldness. However, as a political leader and advocate of U.S. interests, his legacy is mixed. "When he retired in 1965, LeMay was widely…

My life experiences have come to define who I am today and the choices that I am currently making reflect my background. From a very young age I realized that I enjoy studying and applying formal sciences and this practically influenced me to achieve better results in these fields, as I enjoy doing what I like and this felt natural. Whenever someone questioned me about my degree or about how I saw my future I always responded by saying a joke involving mathematics hoping that the respective individual would immediately understand that this particular domain is very important for me.
Many people in the contemporary society tend to ignore the importance of mathematics because of its "cooler" counterparts. With technology experiencing significant advancement…

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
It is my desire to apply for college for several reasons that will affect my destiny. First, my love for physical education can be met by getting my degree to be a physical education teacher. Secondly, I will be the first person to attend college in my family. Third, I realize education is important even though my grade point average does not show this. I have learned many valuable lessons during my high school education even if it does not reflect on my transcript. It is my desire to attend your college and to work toward the goals of being a coach.
First, I must acknowledge my transcripts poor showing. I have the potential to be a success in any field that I choose. My SAT…
Introduction
My personal leadership development plan is based my intention to use transformational leadership theory to promote healthcare-eldercare advocacy in my organizational behavior. As Shanks and Buchbinder (2012) show, “leadership development includes both formal and informal efforts” (p. 279). Completing courses online or at a university are formal ways to develop one’s leadership skills, while informal efforts can include anything from mentoring others to coaching and guiding staff members in new tasks or cross-discipline work. No matter the method employed, a personal leadership development plan should utilize a strategy for maximizing leadership effectiveness by implementing an appropriate theoretical support for the plan, recognizing one’s leadership strengths, correcting one’s leadership weaknesses, and identifying action items that will help close gaps between being the leader one is now and being the leader one seeks to become.
Transformational Leadership
Transformational leadership is a style of leadership that can be applied in virtually any…
Personal Belief
This I believe: when a person sings or smiles while singing -- which can be done -- that person is going to raise her level of happiness and make others happier. Scientific research verifies the idea that smiling lowers the blood pressure, relieves stress and makes humans more appealing to others, among other benefits. Research also shows that singing in a choir is a way to change one's mood and gives a comfortably warm feeling with a sense of close emotional involvement with other people in the choir. Singing alone is beneficial for many reasons but the actual scientific benefit is in the production of endorphins that occurs when a person sings out in a strong song. Endorphins interact with receptors in one's brain and that takes away the sense of pain.
I believe in smiling and singing because I have had first-hand experiences with those actions. When…
Open communication is key to organizational success, and this openness can be demonstrated to employers through honesty and forthrightness (within the bounds of professionalism, of course) during the interview process.
In addition to these directly employment-related knowledge and skill areas, the course I took in Personal Finance will have a substantial positive impact on the way I approach my profession and my attractiveness to potential employers. Not only have I been provided with information on how to spend wisely, save appropriately, and even gauge investment opportunities in my personal life -- all of which will give me enhanced stability and security, which will be seen as a benefit by potential employers -- but these skills will also transfer to my profession in terms of assisting home health care recipients and practitioners alike in reducing their own expenses and thus providing additional value to expected services and relationships. In addition, appropriate…

The term reports that I obtained in high school are, in retrospect, a source of immense joy not only for me but also for my family. Even though in majority of the subjects I appeared to perform at an average level, the remarks on my report concerning sports always mentioned that I, Meira, display no interest at all in sporting ventures. up-to-date, it still baffles me that my gym instructor actually never knew my name. This could be attributed to the fact that the number of instances that I actually turned up for the weekly ordeal was not more than ten times. All this perhaps could be no reason for more than a casual giggle at the recollection…

Personal philosophy of education statement
Although the settings that are used to deliver educational services today differ markedly from those used a century ago, the fundament purpose of education has remained essentially the same: to provide young learners with the academic background and experiences they need to become contributing citizens to American society (Stone, 2014). The introduction of numerous technological innovations in recent years, though, has also resulted in growing numbers of educators questioning the efficacy of conventional pedagogy that ignores the ability of students to locate information instantaneously online about the 50 state capitals, the names of all the presidents, how far it is to Jupiter, or any of the other countless facts that were once widely regarded as indicators of learning. As Trybus (2013) emphasizes, “The future of education may seem daunting and challenging if educators lack a vision of what matters most for students to be prepared…
child growing up in China I have had an interest in business. I would often sit and watch shop keepers and store owners run their businesses and think about how I would one day run my own place. As a learner and thinker, I have always been drawn to education and I loved school. My education eventually brought me to California to study at USC, and now, after completing my B.A. In finance, I'm decided to pursue advanced studies in economics.
As an international student at USC I've had the opportunity to work and learn with a very diverse population of students from both the United States and abroad. The varied perspectives of my classmates help me understand that the study of economics and business is an intricate mixture of finance, culture, and even language. As I explored the options for my graduate studies I became interested in attending the…
2. Describe something you have accomplished that makes you proud. What did you learn from this experience that might help you to ensure high academic achievement for all of your students?
As a student, I devoted my educational efforts to certain academic subjects that interested me more than to other subject matter areas. Whereas science and mathematics were always interesting to me, I was somewhat bored by other subjects, like World History. I persevered by memorizing material covered by the curriculum, but failed to learn much of what I memorized for the sake of performance on exams.
Much later, I discovered that some of the same subject matter was available in video format and that, for whatever reason, I learned history in a much more genuine way from the audio-visual medium than from textbooks. As an adult in the education field, I realized that a moderately good understanding of world…
These authors add that with respect to this exemplary leadership quality, "Although a significant difference existed by gender, both men and women rated challenging the process as their least developed leadership skill" (p. 259). This also means that people must be willing to take personal and professional risks, including speaking up for what they believe in the workplace, but the cost-benefit analyses that are routinely used by winners can help establish the framework in which such pursuits are achievable.
Such intuitive decisions may be valuable in the workplace when someone's experience and intellect combine to produce consistently positive outcomes, but it is reasonable to suggest that many successful business leaders take their time in formulating decisions about many of the complex issues they encounter on a day-to-day basis, but in some cases, time is of the essence and what "seems more right" will have to do. People with fine-tuned senses…

Business Management
Skill Pre-assessment and Analysis Report
The key to successful management is a combination of a variety of skills relating more than just to "how well a person may know his job" but also to how skilled that person may be as a leader, administrator and how well they might get on with people, both around them, and working for them.
While a manager obviously needs to be able to fulfill the supervisory role in a competent manner, motivating his employees is vital in increasing the 'bottom line,' which is deemed as an acceptable measure of success in any management position.
One of my lasting impressions of what it takes to be a good manager comes from reading years ago about various management theories. According to management theorists there are generally two types of leaders that emerge, those that are product orientated, and those that are relationship motivated.
It…
