Realizing these similarities, I am able to move beyond the stereotypes that needlessly divide people and treat everyone with the kindness, love and respect that all people deserve.
A emigrated from China along with my entire family when I was just a small child. My parents used their entire savings to relocate to America because they believed in the American dream and because they wanted to give their children educational and job opportunities that were not available in their native land. However, achieving the American dream has been more difficult than my parents had initially anticipated. My father was not able to find a job because he did not speak English and my mother has only been able to find work in low-paying, unskilled jobs. Even though she has had to work long hours to support my whole family, she never complains. Because I understand the sacrifices my parents have made to secure my future, I want to work very hard and to take advantage of all opportunities that I can to fulfill their dreams. And, one day I hope to repay my parents by helping them have a better quality of life after I enter the business world and can afford to provide them financial assistance.
