If someone were to ask you what you thought was the most deceitful profession, certified public accountants would most certainly not be the first to come to mind. That is because CPAs are known and respected for their honesty. The profession goes out of its way to project that image, and there is a certain amount of truth to it. However, not all CPAs are squeaky clean and respected for their honesty. Some are quite dishonest and are putting a black mark on the image of the entire profession. There is one area where the CPA profession has fallen short of protecting the public interest. There is a general duty that accountants owe to their clients and the other persons who are affected by their actions. Two elements compose the general duty of performance: skill and care. Another element and responsibility is owed to clients and other persons, which is that accountants should observe a standard of ethical or social responsibility.

The short story by Herman Melville, "Bartelby the scrivener: a story of Wall Street" is at this point considered one of the most important short stories of American literature. Although it was not received with best reviews in the 1850s when it was first published, the complexity of the writing as well as the themes of the story recommended the piece of literature as one of the most interesting and at the same time revealing literary creations of its time. The main character, Bartelby is the main focus of the story and the element that provides complexity to the piece.

The stakeholders under corporate social responsibility theory includes employees, but many major U.S. corporations contribute millions annually to charities while paying employees wages too low to support themselves, let alone a small family. The philanthropic public image tends to buffer corporations from a low public opinion, but even the billions contributed to charities by Walmart cannot erase the stain of poor employee relations. This essay makes the case that paying employees a living wage is probably the most important philanthropic endeavor that any successful corporation can engage in.

Environmental Justice in the United States:

The immigrant who was interviewed for this paper is John Smith (not his real name). He is a twenty-nine year old male immigrant of Pakistani origin who lives in New York. Both his parents are from Pakistan but settled in the United Arab Emirates after their marriage. Smith has also spent all his childhood in the United Arab Emirates where he was born and has only visited his home country Pakistan twice in his whole life. Smith moved to New York from the United Arab Emirates at the age of eighteen to pursue higher studies in engineering at a well-known university. He lived with one of his uncles who has been living in the United States for several years and is a citizen. Smith is currently pursuing his doctoral degree at the university and is also a researcher as well as an assistant to one of the professors. He spends most of the time at the university or in the lab where he performs his research work. He has not yet applied for citizenship of the United States but plans on doing so as the time for his marriage comes near.

This paper first defines a constitutional government in the abstract, and then discusses specific ways in which the U.S. Constitution was influenced by British history and British reforms of the relationship of Parliament and the sovereign. The American system of checks and balances is also discussed, as is how the 5th, 14th, and 18th Amendments reflect different aspects of the evolution of U.S. constitutional law.
