Okanagan Specialty Fruits is a small company that has invented a new technology which has enabled them to genetically engineer apples in such a way that they do not turn into a brown color when cut or sliced. Okanagan is trying to bring this product in the market given the fact that they believe the non-browning apple will be accepted by food companies and consumers. It will also help increase the number of apple sales since retailers can now sell sliced apples. However, the company has received different receptions regarding bringing the genetically engineered apples in the market. There are those who oppose the Arctic Apple as Okanagan named it, while there are those willing to give them a chance to sell the product in the market. Despite the fact that American family has been consuming genetically engineered foods, Arctic Apple will be the first version of genetically engineered fruits that the people will bite directly (Andrew, 2012).

Apple Association have greatly rejected the Arctic Apple. They fear that the product will keep doctors away thus; views it as dangerous. There are those who believe that consumers may seek information on the apples they are consuming if, it lacks to turn brown (Andrew, 2012). Nevertheless, Rice Fruit Company in Pennsylvania is among conventional apple business companies that do not oppose Arctic technology. They believe that the non-browning trait of the apples will help packers and growers and increase their sales level. The issue of whether to bring Arctic Apple in the market is still debated upon and a solution is not yet found.
