Age There Have Been Many Book Review

The Progressives transformed America in a multitude of ways, some positive and some negative. Most importantly the situation offered voice to many who had not previously had voice, or at least gave permission to build one and created a completely different relationship between individuals, the economy and even government. Definitions used during the progressive era still apply to many attributes of social, political and economic reform today and many of the anti-corruptive checks and balances that were begun during the progressive era are lasting even into the modern information age. Diner contends that the progressive era marked an opening of opportunity for individuals and groups to help redefine American democracy in such a way that people might be better protected from industrialism, economic concentration and better allow the government or representative government to help control the destiny of the nation. (12) Most importantly Diner stresses that for many groups this was an opening of a path that had not yet been trod, but did not prove to be the most defined,...

It collectively created a discourse to discuss reform and possibly institute it, while in some areas (if very few) it created the best possible case scenario.
Diner does draw on primary sources for the work, in the sense that he found examples to prove some theoretical developments and movements, yet he also relies very heavily on secondary scholarship, i.e. other historians assessments of the era. The work is not always well referenced in the text, so it is often a mystery where the information comes from. This technique of kind of leaving out the references for the sake of smoother reading is combated by the inclusion of a biographical essay at the end of the work, which explains in am ore general way where information came from. The work might be better served, as more than a mere introduction to themes of the progressive era if sources were better documented throughout the text.

Age-associated Well-Being Remains a Mystery Age and Happiness Global and hedonic well-being may represent a potentially valuable social indicator, but little is understood about the underlying causal factors.
