This has led to calls for many professionals to deal with the problem at a school level -- and particularly with regard to the formalization of physical exercise for children. This is seen to be an area that can make a difference in the fight against obesity. Dalton ( 2004) in a study entitled Our Overweight Children: What Parents, Schools, and Communities Can Do to Control the Fatness Epidemic, states that the responsibly in the fight against this serious problem lies with school and state authorities. He states that,
America faces a fast-growing epidemic of childhood obesity that threatens the long-term physical and psychological health of the nation's children. It is arguably the most pervasive and serious threat to children's health today and in the future… Moreover, there is every expectation that the next generation of children will be even fatter and less fit. In 1995 researchers predicted that nearly all Americans would be overweight by the year 2030 if current trends continued.

In the final analysis, all factors and variables have to be taken into account in the understanding of this problem. However, many experts realize that there are some causative factors that are more prominent and important at the present time that should be focused on to curtail this threat to individual and social health.
