It is the core book of the religion, and concerns both spiritual issues, and more practical, moral ones. Islamic law comes from interpretation of the Quran, and of Mohammed's life, rather than from the book itself.
From Mohammed, Islam spread rapidly throughout the world. The religion's main split occurred as a result of an early difference of opinion concerning leadership of the religion, resulting in two main sects, the Sunnis and the Shia. Other sects have emerged, such as Sufism, Ibadism, and the Ismailis. These groups have all formed as the result of various minor schisms.
The Amish religion began in Switzerland, and are considered an Anabaptist Christian denomination. The offset left Europe and resettled in North America during the 18th century. Today, there are 231,000 Amish, and their population is growing.
The Amish began as a split from Mennonites, after a man named Jakob Ammann decided that the Mennonite groups had deviated too far from the teachings of Menno Simons. Some of the features of Amish are strong church discipline, marriage within the faith, social exclusion of excommunicated members. Amish typically do not build churches, but hold worship is people's homes. Key tenets of the faith are humility, and adherence to the simple life. Their main holy book is the Bible, and they also adhere strictly to the rules of the church, known as the Ordnung.

The Ordnung, along with local rules and interpretations, are a critical element in day-to-day Amish life, and are the rules under which Amish must live, or face excommunication. Humility is important to the Amish, and they strongly reject pride or arrogance. The take the Biblical scripture seriously, literally as the word of God. They reject worldiness, feeling that this may keep them from being close to God.
