¶ … gathering of information on crime prevention initiatives is critical in the quest for a better equipped and evidence-based crime prevention programs (UNODC,2010).In this paper, we present the outcome of an interview which was conducted with Mr. Richard Aborn, the president of the Citizens Crime Commission of New York City, an independent non-profit organization which is nonpartisan and is focused on criminal justice as well as public safety policy reform. A review of their view on the Juvenile justice system is presented below. Which program have you initiated towards the larger juvenile justice system?

We have started a program aimed at pressurizing the federal government to raise the age of legal responsibility from 16 to 18 years.

What are the program goals and objectives?

The main goal of the program is to prevent underage executions and sentencing. This is because juveniles are supposed to be punished as juveniles and not as adults. The objectives are to come up with a better alternative to the harsh punishments that is usually meted against our Children and also to protect the rights of these children to safe and fair punishment.

This is because we are still at an early state of the initiative.What is best is that we have created an awareness and our leaders seems to be listening. We are currently seeking Congressional support for the same.
What is your view on the controversy surrounding the New York Juvenile justice system's policy on execution of Juveniles?

My view is that the age of criminal responsibility should be raised to 18. My very first question is why the legal age of drinking has been raised too high to 21 years while lowering the legal age of criminal/legal responsibility to 16.There is something very wrong here. Our organization is increasingly getting concerned that our state, New York which is has a great reputation of being one of the most progressive places in our nation is working very hard to be the last state in the nation in the manner in which it treats its citizens aged 16 and over within its criminal justice…
