¶ … installation of environmentally sustainable bins in a recycling bins project. The recycling bins will be installed across the University in order to remove the need for individual desk bins and sending clear visual and physical signals on what waste belongs in what bin.

Deliverables

It has been determined that there will be a need for approximately 2000 individual recycling bins on campus and 500 in halls. The bins will be one of two sizes including small bins (50 liters) and large recycling bins (180 liter) No more than 100 recycling stations will be needed. Each large bin will cost £300 and each small bin costs £50. Included in the price is integrated signage, accompanying communications materials, delivery and installation. The estimated price for the establishment of sites to manage waste segregation, storage, disposal and collection is £30,000. This includes all the necessary work needed to convert the sites to the new use and any equipment that might be needed.

Project Budget

The project budget has been set at £250,000 was agreed by the University for installation of environmentally sustainable bins across all sites and for the introduction of accessible ground floor sites on campus to manage waste segregation, storage, disposal and collection.

Project Timeline

The aims are to complete the project within 24 months and to keep the project costs within £30,000 more or less in costs as determined. The project is planned to start in the Lent term (1st February 2015).

Activities for Deliverables and Schedule of Activities

Activities involved will include:

(1) Removal of old bins

(2) Installation of new bins

(3) Posting of what belongs in the bins.

Brief Description, Justifications and Assumptions Made

The bins will be installed at the locations where old bins are removed for the purpose of better ensuring recycling across the university. The bins will be marked as to what belongs in each of the bins. Assumptions include that the bins will be used as planned. Constraints identified include that individuals across the university may not use the bins as planned in this project. However, justification for this project is based on the fact that the bins are needed and the assumption that they will be used.
