Lifelong Learning Using Technology

Technology has changed the way people learn. These days, the conventional method of learning from books and through teacher's intervention is not the only technique that educational institutions depend to impart knowledge and skills to students. With the emergence of technology, learning from digital resources has been a component of many school curriculums.

Learning is a continuous process. After finishing school, we continuously absorb diverse information, knowledge, and skills from our own experiences, either from our work or simply from our day-to-day life. More especially, because of the different technologies that have been developed, people seem to similarly develop different strategies for lifelong learning. One tool to such is the usability and value of what the Internet can provide. If some decades ago, we have to run to libraries when we need to research information, the convenience of accomplishing such need these days, with the help of the Internet, can make one say "thank you technology."

Because of the accessibility of different technological tools for learning, lifelong learning has been a passion to most people. This is apparent with the many people we see that browse the Internet for different kinds of information. Also, this is apparent in the number of schools that provide online schooling or distance learning. Such learning strategy is very helpful to people who wish to take up a learning course from a school that is far from their location. Moreover, it is useful for working professionals who wish to further their education but do not have much time to attend conventional learning environment.

Technical professionals in information technology have a lot of responsibilities in the development and maintenance of strategies for lifelong learning. This is because of the fact that learning with the help of technology will not be possible without them. They are the individuals who are responsible for the existence of learning technology. Thus, because of this, their responsibility revolves around the following.

To make accurate, efficient, and different technology-based learning tools.

Enhancement and maintenance of the learning tools for "up-to-date" features.

Development of more and better technology-based learning tools.

Technical professionals in education have similar responsibilities in developing different strategic models that promote lifelong learning. With such strategic models, people can have idea on the right things to do for them to pursue a lifelong learning even without the conventional classroom environment. All they need is discipline, the right strategies, and technology, to allow constant learning process -- a lifelong learning.

Learning Using Technology

Learning using technology has been an indispensable element in many educational institutions. Computers and different technological learning devices were implemented in learning environments because of the many advantages that they provide to the learning process. Some of such advantages are quick access to information, makes learning interesting, provides diverse information (i.e. The Internet), and many others. However, learning using technology must follow several measures to ensure that technology plays positive and beneficial roles to learning. TLT Group online has the following pointers to help people, especially the educational institutions, ensure that technology provides major improvements in educational outcomes.

Begin with a long-term focus on a few selected outcomes and the educational activities needed to improve them

Choose technology that can contribute incrementally and cumulatively over the long haul.

Emphasize forms of instructional material that most faculty members find quick and easy to create, adapt, and share

Track the progress of the strategy to get the data (and money) needed to stay on course.

Create coalitions to ensure that the program has all the ingredients needed in the recipe for improving outcomes.

Researches and studies have found that learning using technology is effective and efficient to different types of learners. However, there are also negative consequences that have been explored regarding the use of technology in learning. One of the most common issue that have arouse is the effect of lack in communication skills of people who undergo learning through technology.

In general, with the all the advantages and disadvantages that may have exist on learning using technology, one important point that most studies highlight is that technology should not replace the traditional process of learning. Rather, it must be considered as an important supplement to learning because of the obvious advantages that technology can provide. However, the importance of learning intervention with the teaching professionals and with other people must not be overlooked.

Using Electronic Information in a Responsible Manner

Despite of the fact that it is with technology that people develop advanced mechanisms for an easy and secured accomplishment of tasks that is used-to-be done manually, there is still one common but critical issue that exists with regards to the technology in electronic information -- that is, the responsible access and use of electronic information.

Using electronic information in a responsible manner is the main concern of the IT industry when making data and information travel within a network or the World Wide Web. The fact that information security is not yet provided with a total solution, information theft crime where important information is hacked for malicious activities is still rampant these days. This is why laws to such illegal activities have been developed to fight cybercrimes and to promote responsible use of information and technology.

Responsible manner of accessing electronic information is important because many information that travels within the World Wide Web can have an impact to society. According to the Commission of the European Communities regarding cybercrimes,

In the hands of persons acting with bad faith, malice, or grave negligence, these technologies may become tools for activities that endanger or injure, the life, property or dignity of individuals or damage the public interest.

There are many methods that people can do to promote responsible access of electronic information. Cybercrimes can be prevented if people will be responsible enough to follow the succeeding etiquette to access of electronic information, as extracted from Computer Learning

Online.

Respect the privacy of other's information

As much as it is important to respect the privacy of others in anything, follow the same respect for privacy to others in terms of electronic information. For instance, in an organization, do not attempt to open or access any information that should be confidential.

Respect for Property

Do not attempt to change or delete files that is not yours.

Respect for Ownership

Do not use information that is not yours. Crime to information ownership, usually refers to plagiarism, is among the many cybercrimes that has been a problem in Internet Security (i.e., copying of electronic information that were developed by others and publishing them as yours)

From Merle Marsh's article, Sally Bowman Alden suggests the following in regards to our responsibility relating to information and technology.

"One of the most important roles we play as adults with children is to impart ethics and values important to our society& emdash;a sense of responsibility, a sense of right and wrong and a sense of the law. While laws exist to protect people, their property and their rights, education instills the belief that people, their property and their rights should be protected and respected."

Communication and Management Skills

Many businesses and organizations focus on communication and management skills to succeed in their business goals and objectives. These two elements are in fact important components to make an organization stable and organized throughout its operation. Without them, chances are the main goals and objectives of an organization will not be met.

There are many reasons why communication skill is important to an organization. With good communication skills, an organization can carry out its activities such as doing business deals with another organization. Otherwise, if a company has no ability to skillfully communicate its products or services to its clients, they cannot succeed in gaining the trust of their customers or prospective business partners to transact with them.

Through communication, people are able to understand each other. Aside from the importance of good communication skill of an organization to their clients and customers, every individual/employee within the organization has the responsibility of promoting good communication with one another to prevent work issues and problems. An open communication that is practiced in an organization allows a smooth working relationship that in turn facilitates the goal of meeting the entire organization's objectives.

Management skill, on the other hand, is similarly important as with communication skills. The process of properly managing an organization comes with adequate skill in communicating with people. Managers have the responsibility of identifying what is best for his people as well as formulating the necessary strategies that can help him and his people obtain solutions to any problems. They also have the responsibility to demonstrate the right attitudes and behavior so that they can serve a good example to others.

There are many factors that an excellent management skill requires. However, in general, the most common element of a management skill is righteousness and equality to every member of an organization. Aside from this, in terms of providing good business management…[continue]
