Buffalo Soldiers is a name for a group of soldiers that were initially members of the American 10th Calvary Regiment of the U.S. Army. The group was created on September 21, 1866 in Kansas and was also known as Negro Calvary by the Native American ethic groups that they fought. Despite its initial use to refer to this group, Buffalo Soldiers was extended to include all African-American regiments that were created during this period. The Congress established this group as the first peacetime all-black trooper in the regular Army of the United States. Unlike their white counterparts, these soldiers experienced numerous difficulties in their operations because of their ethnicity and the widespread racial prejudice at that time. As a result, they always found it difficult to carry out their respective duties effectively. Buffalo Soldiers are integral part of United States' history in light of the successes and challenges they experienced when performing their duties. Background Information:

Congress consolidated the regiments when reorganizing the peacetime regular army, which contributed to recognition of the military merits of black soldiers. Buffalo Soldiers was made of black enlisted men commanded by white soldiers though they were few exceptions of their composition like Henry O. Flipper
In the initial years of their formation, Buffalo Soldiers mainly served in various posts in Southwest, Texas, and the Great Plains. When serving in these various posts, Buffalo Soldiers participated in most military campaigns and earned an outstanding record for their performances. Apart from the military campaigns in these posts, the soldiers also performed various tasks along the frontier including building roads, serving in national parks, and escorting the U.S. mail. Their work in military campaigns and other tasks earned them distinguished service while they faced some challenges that made it difficult to perform their duties effectively.

Challenges Experienced by Buffalo Soldiers:

Despite wearing the uniform of the U.S. Army, Buffalo Soldiers experienced several challenges that hindered the effective performance of their duties. These challenges were mainly attributed to their ethnicity and the prevalent racial prejudice of the time. In the initial years after the establishment of these troopers, African-Americans were usually abused and/or murdered for even the least supposed offense. As a result, the black troopers occupied…
