Human Space Travel: Environmental and Health Effects
Ever since people first looked up at the stars, mankind has wondered about going into space. What was up there? What would it be like? Was there life, looking back at them? Some of these questions have been answered by NASA and the space program, and some of the questions remain. However, it is no secret that space travel has effects on the human body and on the environment, and those are two areas that are not often discussed as thoroughly. In addition, there are financial costs (and the potential for big profits) to consider when it comes to space travel and human beings..
Effects on Human Health
One of the main effects on human health is on the cardiovascular system. Because there is little gravity in space, the fluids in the body are able to shift more easily, and that can result in a stuffy nose, puffy face, and headache (Effect, n.d.). Bones and muscles weaken more rapidly in space, as well, and the red blood cells in the body change their shape. Fortunately, the shape of the cells is easily reversible with a return to normal gravity. However, the weakening of the bones and muscles is not something that will simply correct itself when a space traveler returns to earth (Effect, n.d.). Anyone who travels in space should also be prepared for some motion sickness and a higher dose of radiation than the one to which he or she would normally be exposed on earth.
All of those things can cause short- and long-term problems for human health, and are worth carefully considering to make sure that the benefits of traveling in space really do outweigh the costs and potential costs that could be faced at a...

Environmental Science Suburban Sprawl: Problems and Solutions The objective of this work is to discuss the cost and benefits of low density suburban development and to who it is that gains and loses. Low density urban sprawl was seen as the answer to housing the growth urban population in both Australia and USA cities. However, this has proven to be untrue and the facts speak quite differently. Health problems are many in these
Studies of the aftereffects of the Gulf War determined that every single U.S. 120 mm tank shell resulted, on average, in approximately five pounds of radioactive Uranium Oxide dust. Likewise, each of the nearly one million 25 mm and 30 mm canon shells fired (mostly) by U.S. aircraft contributes a proportional share of Uranium Oxide dust per unit volume (Peterson, 2003). Unlike the depleted Uranium itself (which emits mainly Alpha particles), the
Consumer Behavior in Travel: This review is a focus of the literature regarding consumer behavior as related to all aspects of travel. This review includes details of the buying behavior of the major generational groups (determined by accepted year guidelines), why travel consumers choose to shop as they do, and what behavioral traits lead to different travel experiences. Travel itself is a simple concept to define (when an individual leaves the local
Radiation Safety in Industrial Hygiene Nature has it that all living things depend on a certain type of radiation to survive. This is evident in many ways for instance we can see because our eyes sense and become aware of the radiation in the form of light; then there is infrared radiation that allows is to keep ourselves warm in the cold weather, radiation is used for cooking, whether it is
Whereas the level of air pollution in Canada is smaller than the ones in other countries, it can still be considered to play an important role in the tourist industry. People generally come to the country thinking about fresh mountain air and no pollution. However, if one of those wanting to visit Canada would have came across the information that, in 2007 alone, air pollution in Toronto was responsible
