Date and time of observations: May 13, 2017; 12 pm to 4 pm.
Why the setting was chosen: The selection of the setting was largely informed by the observer's interest in the setting. Also, the setting is unique, providing an opportunity to observe the natural world without interruption.
Description of the setting: The forest is located in central Utah. The property is expansive, covering more than one million acres. It features not only woods, but also wildlife, a lake, and rocks.
Observations:
Hear: A smooth breeze can be heard rustling through the woods. In the background, noises of various birds and animals can be heard. The noises are of birds and animals ranging from raccoons to vultures, beavers, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, and cougars. Movements of animals can also be heard.
Smell: The air is cool, clean, and refreshing. There is a slight smell of decaying animals in the air.
Touch: The ground is generally hard and dry. The lake water is quite cold, despite high temperatures (about 26 degrees Celsius). Most trees have rough barks. Others have soft barks. Some rocks are slippery and others dry.

Most trees have green leaves, though there are some with yellowish leaves. The trees also have different lengths: some are as high as 40 feet and some as short 10 feet. Some trees have withered and others have been cut. One cannot tell exactly when the trees were cut, but the cuts appear quite recent. Underneath the trees there is green vegetation, ranging from grass to shrubs. There are some shrubs with pinkish flowers and others with purplish flowers. Some shrubs depict a triangular shape and others a cylindrical shape. A number of birds and animals are also visible. Eagles can be seen hovering in the sky. One eagle descends to the ground and ascends with something in its claws, probably a squirrel or a shrew. Beavers and squirrels can be seen running across the ground. Some beavers are seen scratching the ground as they put some stuff in their mouths. Hummingbirds, woodpeckers, and raccoons are jumping from one tree to the other, either playing or hunting. Some hummingbirds are moving in and out of their nests, while some woodpeckers are pecking the barks of trees. Some raccoons remain still. There are animal droppings in view.
