Autocratic Leadership Has Advantages Essay

¶ … Authoritative Leadership My leadership style is best described as the authoritative leadership style. This style requires a large amount of responsibility and control on the part of the leader. There are several reasons why I believe such a style of leadership is best suited to my personal strengths in leadership and in the field of nursing. Firstly, the results from the Keirsey Temperament Sorter indicate that my personality type is the Guardian personality type. Guardians are sticklers for following the rules and ensuring that others do the same. These attributes directly relate to an authoritative style of leadership in which the leader is almost autocratic in her relationship to others (Lloyd, 2007, p. 9) because this type of leadership requires minimal involvement from followers. As long as they are able to follow the rules that I mandate, I believe that I can get the most input out of my followers and to help achieve my objectives. Moreover, an authoritative style of leadership is one in which the leader determines the goals of an organization or of her section of the organization, as well as how to determine them. The sort of potential challenges that I foresee with my particular style of leadership involves novelty, especially in terms of human resources. Quite simply, new people who are coming into my system of leadership might pose potential problems. It is important to note that initiating a new order of things or processes for a group of people does not nearly pose the same sort of challenges as the aforementioned situation. When there are scenarios in which entire groups require training or explanation, I do not foresee any challenges. However, when there are new people who do not understand rules and processes that I have previously established, or perhaps even want to challenge them, I see the potential for issues arising.
