Right Way to Plan your Dissertation

Planning a dissertation isn't like planning a small research paper. Often, dissertations are 100 pages or more, and they can take a very long time to put together. That's especially true if they're for a doctoral level degree, where they have to be defended in front of a committee...

¶ … civilization? Is it right to say that France begins with the Gauls, or should we really speak more about France since the French Revolution since that is when the Republic began? These are questions that go through my mind every time I get ready to teach this class.

Does knowing about the Gauls help us understand France today? When do you feel that you are from? How far do you feel it is worthwhile/interesting to trace your heritage? Briefly respond to each for the below person response to the above prompt. Feel free to add your own information. Remember to say where the information came from. We should go as far back as we are able to when it comes to history. The more we find out about the past, the more we know about ourselves.

With that said, I believe that France begins with the Gauls, as that is how France has evolved and made it what it is today through culture, language and architecture. If we started with the revolution in France, there would be missing pieces of this evolutionary puzzle of France and there would be much less of an understanding of why France is the way it is today culturally, politically and otherwise.

For example, going back to the Gauls explains why France has different languages or dialects in different regions and tracing the history farther back also explains why French is spoken in other countries as well. Quite a few years back, before the internet, I did my sons family tree. His father is Hawaiian and while the Hawaiians did not keep great written records, I was able to trace my sons ancestry back to one of the Hawaiian kings (from there it was pretty easy with all the Hawaiian history written).

The stories and the history I learned growing up about Hawaii are now more personal, and my son has that to take with him and tell his children. It was a difficult task, yet it was very interesting and rewarding to be able to do this. I have begun my family tree, and while I do not have generation upon generation yet, I have been able to trace our ancestry back quite a few generations and I am now looking at shields which belong to our family.

To me, it becomes more interesting the farther back I search. Your response to #1 This writer is correct in thinking that people need to go as far back as possible with the purpose of trying to get a better grip over understanding who they are. French does, indeed, begin with the Gauls and it would only be safe for someone to go even further back when trying to understand France history. The truth is.
