Corrective Action Plan

Introduction

When developing the strategic action plan, one of the key assumptions of the plan was that the community would participate and be part of surveys--but this assumption was flawed. Many members of the community refused to take part in these activities. As a result, the data that was collected was not as comprehensive or accurate as it could have been. Thus, this flaw in the plan led to some inaccuracies in the final report.

Problem in the Plan: Community Members Lacked Interest in Programs/Surveys and Did Not Participate

There is a problem when community members do not want to participate in surveys conducted by the police department. There are a few reasons why this is a problem. First, the police department needs feedback in order to improve its services. Without feedback, the department will not be able to identify areas that need improvement. Second, community members who do not participate in surveys may feel that their voices are not being heard. This can lead to frustration and mistrust of the police department. Finally, without participation from community members, the department will not be able to get an accurate picture of how its services are viewed by the public. In order to address this problem, the police department should work on building trust with the community and making it clear that their feedback is important. Additionally, the law enforcement initiatives and programs that need to be designed and implemented cannot be adequately done so without input from the community. As a result, if there is no participation from the community, the entire support for the plan crumbles and falls. The plan should reflect the needs or concerns of the people the plan is meant to serve, after all.

Police Codes of Ethics Virtually all police departments have some kind of formal "Code of Ethics," or guidelines that tell the members of the police force what is and is not acceptable behavior. Recent fatal attacks by police against unarmed citizens -- in particular African-American males -- have been portrayed as insensitive, illegal, and unnecessary violence by cable news programs over the past few years. And those televised reports (shown over and over) have caused angry citizens to participate in large demonstrations in American city streets. Fairly or unfairly, these incidents have caused citizens to turn against police departments -- albeit most police

Other ranks have their areas of responsibility and control covering a geographic area, a detective division, or a specialized division (Sworn Police Officer Class Titles and Job Descriptions, 2006). The LAPD covers more territory and does so with a smaller force, also relying more on
