Computer Mediated Learning Term Paper

Computer Mediated Learning For busy adults with conflicting schedules facing a multitude of family and work demands, who still wish to add to their academic credentials or vocational qualifications, computer mediated learning may seem like an ideal way for such adults to satisfy their educational needs. For an elementary school instructor, however, computer mediated learning lacks the supervisory, mentoring, and hands-on capacity that is usually deemed necessary for imparting basic skills. An "online, collaborative learning approach using the Internet offers solutions to many of the problems plaguing university education," such as oversubscribed classes and the difficulty for university students to gain access to the required classes that they need to graduate on time. (Jones, 2004) At a higher education level, computer mediated learning allows for students to be enrolled in more sections on a year 'round basis in a university environment -- but this is not an advantage enjoyed by elementary school students. At best, in terms of dealing with high enrollment, the computer-mediated classroom is an asset, not a supplement to...

(Jones, 2004) Such a description could not be more antithetical to elementary school children. Moreover "to be successful, the implementation of such a learning approach requires significant technical and educational skills and experience," as well as motivation on the part of the learners. (Jones, 2004)
Does this mean that computer-based learning has no place in an elementary school curriculum? Not necessarily. Foreign language instruction that would not otherwise be available to elementary school children is possible through the use of computer-based learning, as children can hear and interact with native speakers, and even communicate with classes their own age, across the world. (Perez, 1996) When teaching a foreign language, one…

Computer Mediated Education The rapid growth of computer-mediated learning has created both the ideology and the challenging need to crossover to an online learning environment. Although there are several differences between the design processes of computer-mediated learning modules and distance learning, changes can be made to implement the computer-mediated module as a distance learning product. The literature on teaching online is just developing and as a result, researchers are forced to

Computer mediated Communication (CMC) Throughout the years, people used different means of communication to pass information from one source to another. The type of communication involved face-to-face, writing letters then sending to people, using telegrams which was the quickest means of communication, and use of telephones, although telephones were invented some years back. Today, the world has become computerized and there are new technologies that most firms have acquired to ease

Instead, it is seen as an essential tool that can help a variety of organizations to be able to increase their revenues and productivity. (Singh, 2009, pp. 1 -- 10) At the same time, the use of social software has meant that many corporations have been reaching out to employees. This is because they are seeing how this can help to: improve collaboration and communication. One of the biggest problems

Synchronous and Asynchronous Distance education is becoming an increasingly important part of today's dynamic and globalized business and academic environments. This paper gives a brief introduction to distance education and asynchronous and synchronous technologies, and reviews and compares two synchronous technologies (HorizonLive and Centra 7) with two asynchronous technologies (Blackboard and WebCT). Synchronous and asynchronous technologies are both part of the recent explosion of computer mediated learning. As Kirwin notes, computers have

Video conferencing is not only used in business situations but many prominent universities have also opted for this medium as an online learning tool to be utilized in association with other modes like online courses. This type of CMC could require significantly a large amount of money as it involves equipping each station with the necessary computers and the peripherals that will enable an effective training session or communication between the

The instructor does sit with the student when he or she is training with the devices the FAA approves for the educational computer training. Sometimes a separate computer is used during this process, but the teacher is able to monitor and control the student's flight as well as plan out every detail for him or her at that particular time (United States Gernal Accounting Office, 1999). For those that are
