Disorders of the Reproductive System

The male and female reproductive systems are unique and different from each other. However, despite their differences they share a common function which is reproduction. There are various disorders of the reproductive system and they range from the delay in development to structural and functional abnormalities. The paper will look at two disorders of the reproductive system and examine some similarities and differences between them.it will further highlight factors that have an impact on the diagnosis and treatment of reproductive disorders.

Disorders of the reproductive systems

There are various disorders that can occur in men and women's reproductive systems. An example of these disorders is infertility. Infertility is the biological inability of a person contributing to conception. Infertility occurs when one is not able to get pregnant or impregnate a woman after having unprotected sex over a six months period. Infertility is thought to be a disorder in women but in the real sense it also occurs in men (Zimmermann, 2013).

Similarities between infertility in men and women

The main similarity is the fact that both men and women who are infertile can not contribute to conception. Another similarity is the fact that there are some common causes of infertility in both men and women which include damage in the DNA, genetic factors, environmental factors like toxins and general factors like diabetes mellitus.

Differences between infertility in men and women

There are specific factors that lead to infertility in men and women.in women these factors include damaged fallopian tubes, problems in ovulation endometriosis and conditions that affect the uterus. On the other hand the specific factors that lead to infertility are low sperm count, problems in tubes that carry sperms, ejaculation and erection problems (WebMD, 2013).

Factors affecting diagnosis and treatment of reproductive disorders

Many disorders of the reproductive system result to physiological and psychological consequences like guilt, embarrassment and profound disappointment those suffering from these disorders are often quite hesitant when it comes to seeking treatment. There are some factors which have an impact on the diagnosis and treatment of the reproductive disorders.one of these factors is genetics. This is because some of the problems of infertility can be attributed to genes. For instance if a family member is infertile then it might mean that this infertility is genetic. Therefore the knowledge of a patient's family background can be very useful when it comes to the diagnosis of infertility. If there is a case of an infertile person within the family of a patient then the patient can be easily diagnosed with infertility. With this knowledge then it can be very easy for treatment of infertility to begin. This is because the diagnosis can be very early hence treatment begins immediately. This means that genetics plays an important role when it comes to the diagnosis and treatment of infertility in both men and women.
