The retail industry has quickly emerged into a fast paced, dynamic environment, predicated on speed to market. Not longer are the antiquated business practices of older retain organizations applicable within the much faster paced environment. As such, skills that require critical thinking and data analytics are much more sought after. I believe, with my skills and abilities provide a solid foundation within fashion merchandizing focus. For one, my analytical skills provide a good basis in which to review critical data required to be a successful fashion merchandiser. These skills which often includes the ability to forecast sales trends, review overall materials costs, determining which market can support the product and determining project profitability of retail projects.

In addition, I also posses strong critical thinking needed to be nimble as a fashion merchandizer. Here, my background throughout has proven my ability to think critical through proper analysis of the data. This critical thinking also manifests in the ability to ask crucial questions required to determine the optimal course of action for a given problem. These abilities will prove invaluable as a fashion merchandizer given the large emphasis on technology now prevailing. The retail industry overall is becoming much more complex. Supply chains now leverage large international suppliers to provide critical inputs needs to manufacture products. Labor is also much more international, requiring standards that help to promote the safety security of all workers within a given strategic market place. All of these inputs, both directly and indirectly, impact the role of a fashion merchandizer. It is this complexity, the ultimately differentiates strong retailers from their weaker counterparts. It is my belief that my strong background in critical thinking as proven by my high school accomplishments helps demonstrate my proficiently in the field.

Finally, I posses a strong passion for both fashion and the complexity of retail overall. Since a child, I have always followed fashion closely, reviewing new trends and adopting new styles. I have also worked in numerous retail organizations at entry level positions as a teenager. I have used this passion to not only provide great customer service but also to fully learn the overall background of the business and how it functions. While in high school, I also helped to develop the first fashion and modeling club within the school. Here, we created various fashion merchandizing exhibits in which other students and parents could purchase clothing. We also created the schools first fashion show using affordable yet stylish clothing options.

I would like to apply for admission into the university as a fashion designer due to three primary reasons. First, I have demonstrated track record of possessing many of the skills needed to be successful in this career. Namely, I have strong critical thinking skills. Second, I posses a strong willingness and ability to leverage data analytics within my decision making. Finally, I have a very strong passion for retail and its overall workings.
