¶ … Fli Case
The primary recommendation to improve communications at HiFli is the creation and implementation of a communications training program for supervisors and employees. Professional and credentialed instructors should provide direct and hands on lessons concerning general roles, expectations, and potential enhancements to interpersonal communications; conflict resolution methods and practices with specific situations relevant to HiFli included in the instruction, and tips for communicating effectively between employees and supervisors for the benefit of all parties. This will lead to better understandings regarding the expectations and responsibilities of different roles within the organization, and also make the importance of effective communication clear to all participants.
Problems
Specific observed challenges within the company that led to the above recommendation of a communications training program included a lack of employee communicativeness, poor interpersonal communications strategies, and avoidance as the primary method of dealing with conflicts. Many employees had good ideas, but did not communicate these ideas due to a perception that they would not be heard, and a lack of effective means to overcome this barrier. Interpersonal communications were also leading to conflict in certain situations where more effective communications strategies would have avoided such conflict. Finally, the fact that these conflict were not effectively dealt with creates problems for HiFli.
Implementation
The implementation of this recommended plan will be very straightforward, with training taking place in two hour increments over five successive days, with three different "shifts" entering training at different times during the day such that productivity is not adversely affected by this training. That is, one third of all employees and supervisors to be included in the training program will be in training at any given time throughout the day (aside form the lunch hour and one other hour to be determined. Instructors would provide the same lesson to all three groups each day, so that progression would be consistent, and an hour on Friday during the week of training could be devoted to a program-wide (i.e. all three "shifts") commencement program, allowing for recognition, final thoughts and advice, etc.
