Gay Parenting

Gay parents often face very specific and very strong opposition. Stereotypes abound about the end result of gay parenting, stereotypes including an assertion that gay parents will automatically raise a gay child, or that, without both a father and a mother, a child raised by a gay couple will not be fully developed and capable of dealing with the world.

Dr. Osman in My stepfather is a she chronicles therapy sessions initiated to deal with the acting out of a 15-year-old child. The child attempted to blame his acting out on his realization that his mother was a lesbian and that a lesbian couple was raising him.

As a paradigmatic case study, the acting out of the subject could be used to extrapolate that children of gay or lesbian couples have greater difficulty with developmental issues such as gender role identity. The resulting stress can lead to improper behavior, with all the sanctions associated with that.

The result of Osman's study, however, was that the acting out was not as a result of any difficulty associated with being raised by a lesbian couple. Rather, the idea was raised by a savvy child simply looking to avoid punishment.

Other studies have accepted that any sexual conflict between homosexual parents expressed through certain attitudes or behavior towards a child is no different than the behaviors and attitudes directed towards a child due to sexual conflicts of heterosexual parents.

Conclusion: Many comprehensive studies have been conducted to study the overall effects of parenting by a gay couple for a child. Most of the studies agree that common stereotypes about children of gay parents are not supported by the data.

Three other significant arguments are worth mentioning. First, that gay marriage undermines the sanctity of marriage in some way, and secondly that marriage is purely for the sake of procreation --which is impossible in a gay marriage, and that moreover children are likely to be disadvantaged by such unions. These last two arguments are rather contradictory, as the one argument generally suggests that gay marriages should not be allowed because

To the extent either men or women all identified strongly with their prescribed gender roles, that could be an obvious problem anytime same-sex individuals entered into a relationship. Each partner would seek to fulfill his or her perceived role. In actuality, many homosexual couples do adhere to basic elements of traditional roles within relationships, wherein the partners fulfill reciprocal roles. However, in many cases, homosexual couples don not define their

D., para. 8). While homosexuality is not the primary focus of a person's identity that counselors fixate on during these sessions, it is important that counselors take the fact that their client is a homosexual into consideration. By doing this, the counselor can determine whether or not there may be issues associated with their sexual orientation or coming out process that may be affecting other areas of their lives. Thus, the

Gay Marriage A Discussion about the Relevant Factors that Affect Same-Sex Partners in the Modern World Gay marriage, or same-sex marriage, is one of the most controversial topics in the modern age. It can be a divisive topic because many people feel strongly about the issue from both sides. Many argue that any form of partnership should have equal rights as the traditional marriages do and cite legal arguments and make reference

Gay Marriage Gaiety is the practice of bossom love for similar sex and especially between two males or females, bisexual exclusive. Gay Donor or Gay Dad? Challenges Faced by Same-Sex Parented Families The prototypical U.S. family has historically been defined as a heterosexual arrangement that divided responsibilities by gender (Farrell, VandeVusse, and Ocobock 284). Men were responsible for earning enough money to keep the family economically viable, while women were responsible primarily for childrearing and household chores. In the decades since WWII, the prevalence of the traditional U.S. family has decreased as nontraditional arrangements
