Globalization has a tendency to provide adults with the feeling that it would be wrong for them to continue to teach children traditional ideas. While this is in many cases true, it can also have a negative influence on children as they are being assimilated into a greater part of society -- one that does not consider conventional thinking to be especially significant and that is meant to create 'modern' minds. As parents witness Western influences pervading their culture they come to believe that the West is slowly but surely becoming responsible for teaching children. The idea of learning experiences much change as this point as parents become confused and teach both traditional and new ideas as they struggle to prepare children to become an active part of the future.

The gap between parents and children is probably to widen as foreign cultural values pervade a community. This means that it is essential for parents to be familiarized with the concept and to be able to differentiate between ideas that are probable to have a positive effect on their children and ideas that are likely to negatively affect them.

Third World countries often experience shocking changes as a result of globalization and in some cases children are caught by surprise. The fact that they are unable to properly understand the experiences they go through further alters their capability to develop normally. These children obviously understand that they are going through change and that they are going to be very different from their parents. However, while it is perfectly normal for a generational gap to exist, this situation is different...

The article is meant to provide a strong message regarding globalization in an attempt to raise public awareness concerning the importance of devising strategies that will succeed in providing children in a constantly developing world with the opportunity to take matters into their own hands and actually come to be positively affected by the process. One would virtually have to be an ignorant to claim that globalization should be looked at from a more general point-of-view. The reality is that globalization is here and that society needs to do everything in its power to make sure that certain groups are affected as little as possible. Surely, it would be impossible for someone to avoid making children have to suffer as a consequence of the process confusing them. Even with this, the whole world needs to get involved in trying to assist children gain a complex understanding of what globalization is and to acknowledge that they can actually play an important role in assisting humanity by adapting to change and by preserving many of their traditions at the same time.
The course material supports information in the article by displaying globalization as a process that produces irreparable damage to the world. Even though it would be very difficult to stop this damage, it is nonetheless essential for the world as a whole to understand that it needs to change its attitude toward underdeveloped countries. This needs to be done by creating programs meant to assist children experience a healthy transition from their system of values to an international system of values without actually destroying their personal identity in the process.
