¶ … Governance Information management is similar to information technology and this term is usually used as a synonym of information technology. In this modern era, information technology is an essential part of almost every organization due to vast competition and globalization. On one hand information, technology provides a number of benefits to the organizations but, on the other hand, it has been commonly observed that a sudden failure in information technology results in heavy losses. In order to avoid these losses, certain steps can be taken by the organizations.

These steps vary with the nature of information and different organizations take different measures to avoid this failure (Weill & Ross, 2005). Some of the imperative and useful steps taken to avoid the failure in information technology are described below: Hiring a technical expert A common person cannot easily understand how to check the information technology. Since every field requires experts, it is the case with information technology. A technical expert is the only one who can keep a check and balance on the information technology of an organization.

Therefore, organizations can hire the technical expert personnel for this reason and assign him the duties of regular check and balance on the information technology. However, it may increase the cost of an organization, but this cost is less than the cost of failure in information management. Purchasing the best quality hardware and software This is another positive step that can reduce or probability of failure in information management. Low quality hardware has less life as compared with the high quality hardware.

Besides this, low quality software may have certain viruses that can cause the failure. In addition to this, it is also imperative that organizations standardize the software applications and hardware constituents in the entire organizations. Not only is this, but old equipment, after the completion of their life should be retired. Providing sufficient training In addition to the above steps, this step is also significant in avoiding failures related to information management. Besides management, employees also use information technology in day-to-day operations'.

Through rapid changes in the world of technology, organizations are implementing it in its operations. However, employees need proper training to use this information technology and this training may take a lot of time and cost. In order to avoid the failures in technology, organizations should take this step to train the employees by the technical experts. Many organizations provide short-term training but to let the employees deeply understand about the technology, long -- term training should be provided (Weill & Ross, 2005).

Project Metrics: When the Information Technology knows it aims and objectives and how it is to achieve then it becomes very simple for them to reach there. In order to maximize the value it is very important that the Information Technology organizations must define the metrics clearly which can ultimately help them to meet their objectives. Each of these metrics should be supported by an initiative that facilitates the firm in not only meeting their objectives but also exceeding them.

Thus, it is important to understand that having the right metrics along with the right target and initiatives can help firm achieve its objectives (Kappelman, McKeeman, & Zhang, 2006). Metrics business Impact: Following are the importance of Metrics in the following categories: 1. IT Investments to support Business Strategy: Metric's can help firms to align their overall objectives by supporting their business strategies by concentrating their funds on the driving forces or the initiatives that will help the firm to achieve their objective. 2.

IT Cost Control: IT organizations have to evaluate themselves regarding efficient resource allocation as a result they have to monitor the activities. With a good metric system in place can be aligned in a way to achieve an effective cost control procedure. 3. Improving their Services: Metric are related to services rather then information as the customer does not consider IT assets the only thing important to him is the performance like the performance of shopping cart on online shopping websites. 4.

Increase operational efficiency: Information Technology Organizations need a very stable and secure IT operations as this will ultimately lead to improved performance of other sectors of the firm. Metrics can serve well to achieve these objectives. The performance can be measured in terms of time taken to resolve a problem, ensuring compliance with security indicators, the effectiveness and efficiency in terms of cost quality and punctuality for projects.

Although Metrics are simple and easy but their implementation can be quite difficult, as it requires high level of management capabilities in order to collect analyze and resolve the issue, which would require high amount of resources. In order to avoid this Information Technology organization must have automated systems that collect analyze and quickly locate and resolve the issue and suggest methods for improvement. For this purpose, we use portfolio management, which revolves around making factual decisions (Milosevic, Martinelli, & Waddell, 2009).

Portfolio Management: Since now decisions will be made on factual basis it is very important that the data collection is highly relevant and accurate. For example, operational cost should include all types of cost, which may range from revenue to capital expenditure. Health care business and government intervention Government intervenes in the health care businesses in various ways.
