Government Health Centers: Research Questions and Hypothesis

Opportunities for public health vary considerably from one nation to another. This is even true of westernized and industrialized nations, where political, economic and corporate culture will have a determinant impact on how public health is pursued and how access is accommodated. The research proposed for a consequent dissertation would examine these distinctions as they concern the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada. Each of the four nations noted offers a variance of public and government-sponsored health centers, however the nature, accessibility and adequacy of these centers also vary considerably. As this dissertation proceeds with an examination of these variances, it will be with an emphasis on defining the differences in operational orientation, emergency preparedness, available funding and the demographics which require and benefit most from such centers.

Research Questions:

Primary Research Question:

Research questions are framed in order to promote a comparative discussion on the public health orientation of each of the four nations denoted above. First, the research is driven by a primary research question. Subsequently, the research will consider the implications of several subordinate research questions.

The Primary Research Question asks the following: What is the nature of the relationship between each nation's orientation toward universal or nationalized healthcare as this contributes to the accessibility, availability and quality of its government health centers?

Subordinate Research Questions:

In order to promote a nuanced research endeavor, this question is girded by the inclusion of several sub-questions. These will help to direct the focus of the research as we proceed to either prove or discount the hypothesis presented hereafter.

What impact does the political orientation of the respondent nation levy on the presence or absence of government health centers?

What connections can be empirically observed between a governmental philosophy regarding healthcare availability and the resource availability for government health centers?

What demographics are served by government health centers? Does this orientation differ from one nation to the next?

What is the connection between demographic need and the accessibility of government health centers?

How does the availability and quality of government health centers impact accessibility?
