Another complication arose in the 1970's when oil was discovered in the Aegean Sea (Ottoman pp). The Balkan Wars of 1913 had given Greece all the Aegean Islands except Gokceada and Bozcaada, some of them only a few miles off the Turkish coast (Ottoman pp).
