Hard Work Is Critical in a Cooking Career If I had to choose one value that governs my life I would choose the value of hard work. My parents raised me to believe that one will be rewarded in many ways for the effort of hard work and it is something that I apply to everything I do. Hard work is a very simple value to perform. It simply means that I try my best in everything I do.
If a job needs to be handled I take care of it. While others may wait to see if someone else does it. Or believe it is not their task to perform, I will just get it done and move on to the next task. Hard work is something that has helped me in many aspects of my life including school. I believe that this value, which is important to me, will be a valuable asset in the kitchen as well.
If I build a reputation for myself to be a hard worker in the kitchen it is going to help me build positive relationships with those that I work with. The team will be able to count on me to get the job done and not try and get out of working.
They will also be able to count on me to work in all aspects of the kitchen and not refuse any work simply because it is "not my job." I have experienced that type of thinking in others before and it makes the concept of teamwork more difficult to fulfill. I believe the fact that I am a hard worker and I will help all my team mates in the kitchen will go a long way in building important business relationships in my kitchen career.
This has already proved itself in the cooking school. Many times when we are working as a team I will be handling a specific task and we will discover that another task needs attention. I have always volunteered myself to perform the new task.
There have been times when others on the team have shied away form it, or felt it was not their problem as long as they completed what the instructors told them to do, but I believe as a team member it is my job to work hard and help the entire team succeed.
I think this aspect of my personality and beliefs will make me a valuable asset in any kitchen that I work in and it will make people eager to work with me because they know they can count on me to help them in any way the need me to. When I am in a kitchen team setting I look around and I ask the head cook what he or she wants me to do. When I am finished with that task I do not stand around waiting for.
