Human Resources as a Competitive Advantage

(peachschools.org)

Five Keys to Developing Human Resources as a Source of Competitive Advantage

Re-envision Human Resources from a personnel dept to a strategic planning function

Use HR to reach out to nursing and medical programs

Actively recruit new staff

Take active role in preparing new job descriptions

Promote internal candidates and retain top employees

Our people are our strength. To facilitate this strength, we need to have the best people possible. This means strengthening our recruiting processes to bring in the best, and then providing them with the type of environment that will ensure that they remain with the company for years to come.

Job Descriptions

Job descriptions are a critical success factor, because they define what jobs are done and who does them. This ensures that everything is done, and done well. We will always have the right people in place. Furthermore, job descriptions are important because they help us to identify gaps in our skills and this will help us develop specific training and recruitment programs to meet our needs.

Recruitment

To be the best, you have to start at the start -- get the best people into the company. There are a few ways we plan to do this. The first is that the we are going to have a strong recruiting drive, scouring schools, competitors and suppliers for the best candidates. Then, we are going to make sure that these people stay. We will pay them, and provide them with the energetic, fun working environment that they seek in order to ensure that they remain with us for as long as we need them.

New Strategic Role

Human resources has long been seen as a role function, an adjunct that was necessary for the organization but that did not make any major contributions. We have now come to realize that this is simply not the case. In an information economy, having the best and the brightest is critical, and finding the best ways to deploy that talent is equally important. That is why human resourrces is no longer going to be considered to be a staff function, but will be folded into the Strategic Planning Department, because HR is a key part of strategic planning.

Training

When you have great people, you need to find a way to make them their best, while simultaneously filling the needs of the organization. That requires a comprehensive training program. Our new training program will leverage data and modern training techniques in order to bring out the best in our staff. Furthermore, all staff members will be encouraged to partake of supplemental training, for which time and funding will often be provided under our new self-guided training initiative.

Community Health Planning Event

This March, Pleasant Manor is sponsoring a community health planning event and 5-K Fun Run!

Don't miss out on the opportunity to win prizes and learn more about how to live a longer, healthier life.

Every day, the good people at Pleasant Manor work with those in need of health care. Our work has led us to realize that it is so important for people to be as healthy as possible for their entire lives. To make this dream a reality, we are raising awareness of a variety of health issues. Our nurses will be on hand at Tropical Park this Saturday for the 5-K Fun Run and the health awareness seminar, to answer your questions about how to live better.

This initiative is part of a broad community health program

Some other components of this program are:

Community Health Fair

Nutritional and Exercise Promotion

Bands and other programs for students

Speakers and conventions

The Community Health Fair will be produced along with assistance from the state and county, and other health providers in the region. We will sponsor a number of events from clowns and face-painting, to healthy eating seminars. To that end, we are going to have only healthy foods at the fair, like fresh fruit and healthy snacks.

Speakers' Series

Every year, Pleasant Manor will sponsor a guest lecturer on community and health issues. These lectures will bring in the most prestigious expert speakers in their fields to discuss a variety of issues of the day. There will also be a series of smaller lectures at the Manor for the benefit of the residents and the families. These will be recorded and posted to our YouTube channel so that everybody can benefit from the lecture.
