HR Planning and Support Systems

The benefits from a human resource planning software are overlooked by a company due to factors that are particular to the usability of the software, the ability of users in using the software, and the effort of the management to maintain and prioritize its use for human resource planning, modeling, and management.

In most companies, perhaps one common factor that prevents an organization from realizing the benefits of an investment in human resource planning software is the lack of commitment of the management to change from its conventional process into a technology-based method. Many HR organizations, especially those who are used in their conventional methods, view the change into utilizing a new technology as time-consuming and require a lot of changes in management procedures. Thus, most doesn't seriously take the utilization of the software.

Another factor that serves as a barrier for a company to appreciate how beneficial a human resource planning software is the inability of the management to fully utilize the software's capabilities. One cause of this is the lack of management to train its people to learn all the functionalities of the software. Thus, leads them to only use the basic software features, that in turn result to affecting the return of investment from the software. While it should facilitate the many processes in an HR, and should lead to less number of people resource to do the planning and forecasting, the ineffective implementation of the software within the organization ironically causes the need for more human resources that can efficiently utilize the software.

Finally, the dissatisfaction of the users in the capabilities of a human resource software that was not properly evaluated but was implemented for HR tasks can prevent a company from realizing its benefits. If the HR employees do not appreciate the software, chances are its usability in the company will not be maximized, thus making the investment in the software useless for the company.
