Roles in the casino

Casino manager. The casino manager is the coordinator of the casino's activity. In the movie "Casino," this role was played by Robert de Niro. In fact, the casino manager assumes the role of a CEO of any modern organization. In that sense, he not only deals with the coordination of casino activities, but also with the development of the business, with the planning and strategy related issues etc. At the same time, he ensures that the resources needed for the business, including human or financial resources, are readily available. This includes identifying the necessary sources of financing that the casino can rely on.

Welcoming person. The welcome depends on the rank of the arriving guest and of the importance he has for the business of the casino. Depending on the sums he invests in his gambling, the welcoming manager can be either the casino manager, the manager on duty during that day or the pit supervisor. The welcoming package can contain anything from simple introductory remarks, to an invitation to a private dinner with the manager. In the movie "Casino," Robert de Niro takes on the welcoming role in one of the scenes, exactly because of the importance of the visitor.

Pit supervisor. The pit supervisor is in charge with overseeing the activity at the gambling tables and ensuring that the rules of the casino are abided by. There are two important aspects that need to be mentioned here. On one hand, the pit supervisor needs to intervene whenever the rules are broken. However, on the other hand, he needs to be sufficiently diplomatic when he does this so as not to create a disturbance with the other players and have an impact on the casino's reputation.

Security

Manager. The security manager takes on the role of the casino manager as applied for the security segment. As the security manager, his most important task is to oversee any potential risks for the casino and identify the solutions that should be applied in order to minimize the effects. From that perspective, the manager can sometimes walk around the gambling pit, but will most often use the office and meetings with his subordinates in order to obtain the necessary information and feedback.
