In western culture, the touching of cheeks generally mean a greeting more personal than a hand shake but less intimate than an actual kiss. Most of the non-verbals they displayed, like the smiles and the touches (which stood out the most among all non-verbals displayed), seem to be intentional but nevertheless unforced due to their apparent fondness of each other. The third is between two teenagers playing in a basketball in a backyard court. As they were playing, both of them were not taking their eyes off the ball. Once, one of them stole the ball from the other and took a shot which went in. Non-verbal behavior is an important aspect in communication. It is as powerful as, if not more than, verbal communication because most people give more weight to it than the latter. Generally, when actions and words are inconsistent, people tend to believe the actions more than the words. Thus, understanding the different aspects of non-verbal communication is important in analyzing human interactions. Still, our own biases greatly affect our interpretation of others' non-verbal signs. For example, for an insecure person, laughter might be interpreted as a taunt whereas for a happy person, it could be dismissed as a normal occurrence. Thus, it is not wise to judge another person's actions hastily but rather it should be studied thoroughly to be fully understood.
