Who would say that "drinking the blood of the slain" is what God's people do. The people of Midian together with Moab began to interact with the people of Israel. "Israel was staying in *****tim when the people began to behave immorally with the Moabite girls. [the girls] invited the people to their religious sacrifices, and the people ate, and worshipped the [Moabite] gods. "Numbers 25:1-2

For these transgressions, the Midianites were attacked by Moses and his followers (Num 31:1-54). When Moses learns that some Midianites have been spared (Num 31:15), he orders all males and non-virgin females killed, and all the virgin females to be taken captive (Num 31:17, 18). The virgins were divided among the priests and the people. (Num 31:32-35)

Leviticus 14:2-32 describes the regulations of ceremonial cleansing of a person who had had an infectious disease of skin. The priest is to take some of the blood of the guilt offering and put it on the lobe of the right ear of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of his right hand and on the big toe of his right foot. Now imagine the cleaning of a person, with blood, which itself is a good medium of germ growth.

And to understand Islam to its entirety one has to read the whole Quran so that he can make out the entire events in which the revelations came. Islam asks people to flourish the acts of peace harmony and mercy. Sura 5 Verse 32 shows this as it says "That was why We laid it down for the Israelites that whoever killed a human being, except as a punishment for murder or other villainy in the land, shall be looked upon as though he had killed all mankind; and that whoever saved a human life shall be regarded as though he had saved all man kind."
