"Barth specifically rejected both human spiritual experience and self-consciousness as a guide to God, and regarded both Christian and non-Christian religion as failed attempts to abide at the point of tangency. The job of Christian community is a negative job only - to seek to be a "void" in which the Gospel reveals itself"
Revelation and Scripture
The Bible formed the core of Barth's theological understanding. The Bible was the record of God's disclosure of His truth on earth through Jesus, and the revelation of the Bible was eternal, and stood apart from all temporal concerns. "Barth acknowledges the existence of a whole host of non-Christian teachings and assertions. He does not deny that many of these have very important things to say. Nonetheless, he concludes that "we must say of these revelations that they are lacking in a final, simply binding authority." However, he did feel that churches and theologians could speak about the truth, so long as its words were grounded in scripture.

Christian and Jewish traditions have always been set apart by a keen interest in the correct ways to interpret the Bible. From the heated debates between the Antiochenes and the Alexandrians during the time of the ancient church to the debates pertaining the use of the Bible during the reformation period, the proper way of interpreting the scriptures has been a major source of concern. To biblical scholars in the
The popularization of the idea, though was somewhat linguistic in that when speaking of God and the Holy Spirit, different words were used that could mean "person," "nature," "essence," or "substance," -- words that were part of a longer, and far older tradition, but not adopted by the new Church . Later, to echo this interpretation, the French Dominican Yves Conger, wrote that the Spirit of God was equal to
role of Islam as a unifying force Perhaps more than any other religion in the world, Islam has put to work its less obvious sense in order to unify the peoples sharing the same belief. Through its art, its common language and its judicial system that has the Koran teachings at its base, Islam was a unifying force among the Arabic peoples of the Arabic Peninsula, Northern Africa and the
Review: Introduction to the New Testament, Berkhof 1915 Summary The most important aspect of Berkhof’s Introduction to the New Testament is its construction and style. It is simple, straight-forward and methodical in its approach to the Book. It is free of sentimentality and all extraneous philosophical and theological questions that have proliferated over the years, as scholars seek to read into the texts of Scripture to find a new or deeper meaning
Disrupting America's economic system is a fundamental objective of terrorists Even as the world continues to struggle with the terrible shock from the September 11 attacks in New York and Washington, one principle lesson has already become clear: disrupting our economic system is a fundamental objective of terrorists. Prior to September 11, our economic environment was certainly not immune to terror, in comparison to many other nations; we lived relatively terror-free. Now,
