Leadership Development Plan Leadership Development for Mentor

To be in position to coach training nurses and uphold care to patient as a first concern. The core objective of training as a nurse is to attain sufficient expertise in patient care and be able to uphold the ethics of nursing while undertaking roles in the professional (Duffy & Hardicre, 2007). The mentor shall endeavor to coach the training nurse towards this goal and assess the nurses' performance and attitude at work. The mentorship program will be through organizing seminars and workshops related the nursing practice for the training nurses.

By the end of the mentorship program the training nurses should have a wholesome understanding of what entails in the nursing profession. They should also be able to confidently take up nursing duties with the diligence the profession calls for; keep good records of the patient performance; respond appropriately to patient needs and discharge physician's directives accordingly. The mentor ship program will also conduct evaluation aimed at assessing the appropriateness of the workshops and seminars and their contribution to training nurses competences in the nursing field.

A demonstration of acquired expertise, confidence and willingness to uphold patient care and first concern is evidenced in the work of the training nurses. It appreciated that outside class learning opportunities such as those afforded through clinical practices, seminars and workshop increased the competencies of training nurses. Outside class learning opportunities also offer an opportunity to training nurses to practically explore care giving measures and query what is learned in class.
Organizing the seminars and workshop for the training nurses was hectic and bringing the nurses together for the discussion was cumbersome. The facilitation of the seminars and workshop required planning and resources that as volunteer mentor, was not within my reach. The respective nursing school and sponsors were called upon to assist in funding the mentoring program. The challenging bit was insufficiency of the funds to allow ease in procurement of materials for training, and to hire training facilitators.

From the discussions held in the workshops and seminars, training nurses were encouraged to put to practice the knowledge obtained in practice in their respective practice stations. This helps to oversee that the mentorship program achieved its intended objectives and the resources and time spent in the workshops and seminars is not wasteful.
