Learning Thomas F. Nelson Laird 2009 Defines Essay

¶ … Learning Thomas F. Nelson Laird (2009) defines Deep learning as a focus on substance in the underlying meaning. With deep learning students extract meaning and understanding from their course materials such as magazines, newspapers, articles, journals and experiences. Deep learning mostly focuses on substance, emphasizes on memorization and root learning. It also helps one to avoid failure since it emphasizes on understanding and when one understands, success comes in.

Deep learning is important to education since it supports deep approaches to learning in student's affairs. Deep learning is also important since it makes one to understand deeper and be able to apply it in their day-to-day life or in the real life. It is also important because it emphasizes personal commitment to understanding hence avoiding failure.

Educational values that support deep learning include the following:

Values are standards or ideals that people use to direct their behaviors. They are also referred to as the standards that people use in making judgments about what is important in life and what is right or wrong...

People are judged in terms of their values.

Therefore when one is motivated he/she will be able to understand and be able to engage himself or her meaningfully and appropriately hence leading to success. . Motivation is the top value in everything because when one is motivated he is able to do his best to achieve his goal.

Knowledge; this is an educational value that supports deep learning in such a way that for deep learning to succeed, students have to know the facts and be informed . They should be able to acquire skills from their own personal experiences and also from theoretical experiences meaning that they should be aware or familiar with what is happening and what happened before.

Discipline; this is also another educational value which supports deep learning because when a student is disciplined he/she will definitely succeed in his/her studies since he will have a good relationship With the teachers and they…
