Music There are quite a few manufacturers of pianos today. I picked the site (http://www.pianofinders.com/Resources/Manufacturers.htm) for two reasons. First, this site is a great resource for anyone trying to find information about current manufacturers as well as other important information necessary when deciding what type of piano is right for you. Second, I chose this site because it provides a rather extensive list of the current piano manufacture, which includes names like Baldwin, Essex, and Suzuki.
(Piano Finders [PF], 2005) This site turns out to be rather informative and global in its approach to the needs of the purchaser. The second website that I found useful is Blue book; this book too offered manufactures and a brief snippet about the company wand the type of piano that they produce. (Blue Book of Pianos [BBP], 2005) This site did not appear to be as informative as the previous one mentioned, but it does offer significant info regarding the various manufacturers.
This website (http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/biography/Ashkenazy.html) gave information about a famous performer named Vladamir Ashkenazy. Born in Russia, Vladamir Ashkenazy is a world-famous pianist and conductor. He studied music at the Moscow Conservatory and, in 1962, won international fame as the recipient of the Tchaikovsky competition. (Weiss, 2007) the second site that I found useful was www.travel-australia.org/melbourne/pianist.html.
I picked this site not only because of the information that it provided regarding the question, but also because of the pictures that you can access on the site. The site discusses Ali Wood and the road that he followed to becoming known as a famous Australian Pianist at such a young age.
(Australia Pictures [AP], 2006) Sites that were relevant to famous composers are www.naxos.com/composerlist/a.htm, this is a site that serves as a mega database of composers and their birth dates, and deaths if applicable are listed on this site. I chose this site because of the amount of information that is provided by giving such a vast number of classical composers, one is allowed to pick and chose which ones they would like more information.
The other bonus is that you can click on any composer, go directly to their music, and listen to the different songs on the page. (Naxos [N], 2007) the second site also gave information about composers, www.zeroland.co.nz/composers_r.html. The only difference with this site is that you do not have a direct link to composer's music. Rachmaninov, Sergei is one of the composers discussed on the site.
It gives a brief listing of some of his work and then gives you a link to purchase the music. (Zeroland [Z], 2007) Both sites give personal information regarding two famous composers, however only one of them give you the opportunity to listen to the music that is an added bonus. As far as Repertoirethe following web site www.kith.org/jimmosk/piano.html, listed the following: Feinberg, Aleksandrov, Medtner, Tcherepnin, Mompou, Friedman, Tausig, Persichetti, Blumenfeld, Sinding, Sitsky, Nielsen.
When you click on one of the name provided it gives you more information. For example Feinberg, Samuil Evgenevich (1890-1972). A pianist of the very first rank, a pedagogue responsible for the Soviet theory of legato playing, and a composer who stood in the vanguard of 1920s futurism, S.E. Feinberg was one of the major figures of Russian music eclipsed by Soviet cultural insularity. A 1911 graduate of the Moscow Conservatory, studying with a. Goldenweiser, he combined his teacher's love of J.S.
Bach and the art of counterpoint with a fascination for the synthetic harmony of a. Scriabin. He composed Sonata #1. Moscow: Muzykalnyi Sektor, 1924. Library of Congress, Sonata #2. Moscow: Muzykalnyi Sektor, 1926. Library of Congress, Sonata #4. Moscow: Muzykalnyi Sektor, 1923. Library of Congress. (Piano List [PL], 2006) the second site discusses the works of Mozart in detail. www.geocities.com/swpianist/mozartrepertoire.html.(Yahoo [Y], 2006) Five famous pieces written for the piano include the following by Mozart: Piano sonata in C, Piano Sonata in F, Piano Sonata in Bb.
Piano Sonata in Eb, and Piano Sonata in G. (Classical Archives [CA], 2007) the last site utilized in this report gives a list of famous orchestras from all over the world. Among these are the Bay area Little symphony. (Cello.Org [CO], 2005) the information on these sites was not that extensive but they did give some information about the orchestras and their style of music performed.
