The achievement of course outcomes has prepared me to meet the fourth MSN program outcome: which is to evaluate the design, implementation, and outcomes of strategies developed to meet healthcare needs. Completing the course has also promoted the MSN Essential IV, and the Nurse Practitioner Core Competencies # 7.

MSN Essential IV is "translating and integrating scholarship into practice," which is a core component of professional nursing. Through the course, we recognize the value of evidence-based practice as we integrate research outcomes within the practice setting. We also resolve practice problems, work as a change agent, and disseminate results. Program Outcome #4: Evaluate the design, implementation, and outcomes of strategies developed to meet healthcare needs (MSN Essentials) Evaluating the design, implementation, and outcomes of strategies that have been developed to meet healthcare needs is an essential of professional nursing.

As Drenkard (2012) points out, "Having a strategy for the implementation of evidence-based practice and the creation of a research agenda for nursing is critical," (p. 242). These strategies must be continually evaluated by nurse leaders and administrators, who work within the ethical guidelines of their organization. Moreover, nurse leaders and administrators assess strategies that have been developed to meet healthcare needs using core competency guidelines like those that have been presented in this program.

MSN Essential IV: Translating and Integrating Scholarship into Practice: Recognize that the master's-prepared nurse applies research outcomes within the practice setting, resolves practice problems, works as a change agent, and disseminates results. To evaluate how the achievement of MSN Essential IV has promoted program outcomes, it is important to recognize that outcomes include the integration of evidence-based practice within the practice setting. Moreover, the MSN essential has shown how nurses work as change agents to disseminate results that are meaningful to the healthcare community.

Achieving overall nursing goals and maintaining nurse competency includes the following seven components of the health delivery system. These health delivery system competencies are as follows. 1. Applies knowledge of organizational practices and complex systems to improve health care delivery. Health care delivery can be improved when nurses apply their knowledge of organizational practices and the complex systems they entail. The task of applying knowledge can be challenging, especially as primary care practices vary considerably (Litaker, 2006, p. S30).

Health care organizations exhibit complex systemic issues that nurses can understand and then apply to improve the quality of care for patients and improved delivery of services. 2. Effects health care change using broad-based skills including negotiating, consensus-building, and partnering. The consensus model is a core component of the health delivery system competency, the need to focus on relationship-building values and team dynamics in order to achieve commonly shared goals ("Population-Focused Nurse Practitioner Competencies," 2013).

Partnering and negotiating have become integral to the process of healthcare whereby teams help to maximize positive patient outcomes. Nurses frequently work in teams with other practitioners. 3. Minimizes risk to patients and providers at the individual and systems level. One of the most important functions of a nurse is to maximize patient-centered, patient-driven outcomes, as well as minimizing risk. Minimizing risk often involves paying attention to the structural details and workplace demands that could present healthcare hazards.

Ensuring that nurses enjoy high workplace satisfaction remains a major concern at the systems level. 4. Facilitates the development of health care systems that address the needs of culturally diverse populations, providers, and other stakeholders. Cultural competency is coupled with patient-centered practice in skillful nursing care (Campinha-Bacote, 2011). Often, patient requests, worldviews, beliefs, and expectations will conflict with those of the nurse or even with the organization as a whole. Using cultural competency skills, the nurse can provide adequate healthcare without sacrificing the tenets of diversity. 5.

Evaluates the impact of health care delivery on patients, providers, other stakeholders, and the environment. The impact of health care delivery on patients, providers, and other stakeholders is typically obvious. Less obvious are the impacts that health care delivery might have on the environment. Nurses with this core competency can reflect on the ways their practice impacts the world around them. 6. Analyzes organizational structure, functions and resources to improve the delivery of care.
