Thrilled to learn about this scholarship, I have given considerable thought to my future goals since my supervisor recommended that I apply. Ultimately I want to give back to my community through outreach and advocacy. I have been working at a busy hospital for years, watching the ways resource-strapped administrators contend with multiple pressures. Sometimes I feel I am in the parallel position, being pulled in different directions as a nurse and a mother of two who now also intends to return to college to develop my career. This scholarship will alleviate my burden but most importantly, it will help me to better embody the principles and values of excellence, justice, and integrity.
I have been working at this particular institution because I appreciate the work we do for the community and want to continue being a part of this tradition. We provide outreach for the homeless and for the poor, believing firmly that no one should be denied what they need for their wellbeing because of their current financial status. At the same time, we are also in desperate need of funding. Reaching our goals has been challenging, but I am still proud to be a member of this resource-strapped institution. This scholarship will help me to become a future leader who can help whatever organization I belong to reach its goals and fulfill its primary mission. As a nurse, I have also recognized the need for an organizational culture that promotes compassion, empowerment, and support. I am excited to be a part of the future generation of nurse leaders who are prepared to do what it takes to reform their institutions and possibly even healthcare policy.
