Organizational Analysis
The Medical care sector is one of the most significant departments in the country today since it is a sector that includes everyone from all the classes of the citizenry. It is therefore significant that the organizational culture in such a sector be treated with utmost keenness to ensure quality services. This was one of the aims that the president had when he campaigned for the Medical Care bill and the actualization of this relies on the people at the various health facilities.
The health facility where I am based is a city hospital in East Flatbush and I am based at the psychiatry department. It is one of the most challenging departments as we have to constantly handle people who need psychological attention and whose life may be hinged upon our capability to handle the situation and diffuse the crisis. These clients also depend upon us to build a life in the future depending on the effort we put in ensuring that the crisis acts as a launch board for these clients into the brighter life in the future. These are on top of handling the daily known diseases and ailments that as a medical practitioner one has to know.
The majority of the patrons at our facility are of the African-American and Caribbean origin among other races hence presenting a variegated client base to the facility. This is a challenge in handling them since, as the medical practitioner ethics require, there is need to handle and treat each patient with the full conscious of the cultural orientation so as to effectively handle their problems. This challenge is even more magnified in my department as one would respond positively or otherwise depending on how much you are conscious of the culture that they belong to.
The above challenge is met by a well qualified staff at the hospital that comes from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. In point, there are medical practitioners from the African-American, Caucasian, Asian and the Hispanic origin hence providing a well spread out cultural assortment to ably handle the majority of the people who come to our health facility. This is one of the organizational structure strengths that act to the advantage of the organization in a bid to provide quality and cultural sensitive services to the people in this region.
Our mission is Primary Focus on Psychiatry needs and Substance abuse treatment services. This is based on the background that there are several cases of wasted lives in this region due to lack of self-discipline and susceptibility to peer influences that pull them into drug abuse. We as an organization have a strong belief that this trend can be reversed and it is among our mission to take the rehabilitation task as a primary mission and help give the society its life back.
In an effort to achieve our mission, there are various services that are provided by the organization such as Detoxification, Methadone Maintenance, Methadone Detoxification, Buprenorphine Services among other intangible services like counseling of patients, advice on life issues, guidance to the young people in the community and so on.
The organization also has Hospital inpatient, Residential short-term treatment (30 days or less) that it provides to the clients apart from the standard outpatient services. The degree of the problem will determine the type of attention and admission that may be prescribed by the qualified doctors at the facility.
In order to be in line with the other bigger healthcare facilities in the country, our hospital has in place the various payment modes such as Self payment, Medicaid, Medicare, State financed insurance (other than Medicaid), Private health insurance, Military insurance (e.g., VA, TRICARE). This enables the organization to serve a wide variety of clients and be able to cater for any person who comes into the facility in need of assistance.
On the other hand, being that there are several patients who come to the facility and are unable to pay the whole amount required at once, the organization has in place a friendly payment system known as Sliding Fee Scale (fee is based on income and other factors), Payment assistance whose details can also be found with the hospital. These modes help the clients who are unable to pay all at once to manage the bit by bit payment of the medical bills that may be pending.
The organization also cuts a niche for itself in trying to make sure there is the best service in terms of cultural consideration in health care. This it has achieved by availing services in diverse languages like Arabic, Chinese, Creole, French, Polish, Russian and Spanish. This will ensure that the vast clientele that visit the facility will have service in various languages to choose from depending on the language they understand the best.
The values of the organization are widely viewed as a consorted effort from the staff, patients, caretakers and they ultimately reflect the feelings of this organization. The team spirit is one of the central values of the origination bearing the diverse and rich background of the clientele and the staff. This team spirit enables the close working relationship between the staff and the patients for the benefit of the patients and endeavor of which I ma happy to be part of.
