Each expected me to take their side and be loyal only to them. I had to explain that I was not going to sabotage either of them and that I loved them both equally. I risked losing each of their friendship because of my honesty but I believe that the only way to resolve conflict and be a successful mediator is to be open and up front with all parties. Eventually my two friends learned to accept my decision and although they are still not on good terms with each other, they both respect me.
