Personal Protective Equipments for Process Technicians

Personal Protective Equipment in chemical plants

Protection at work

A process technician document and perform daily manufacturing operations in bio-industrial, biopharmaceutical and biomedical settings. They are involved in the operation of process equipment especially within a sterile or clean-room environment. This environment is usually made up of large stainless steel vats with various pipes as well as control equipment linked together. Since various different complex steps exist in biomedical research and bio-manufacturing environments, a process technician need to be equipped with personal protective equipment that suit their work as well as much orientation on how or where these protective are used and their limitation.

It is important for employees to demonstrate that they have understood the training as well as the ability to use Personal Protective Equipment effectively prior to be allowed to start working so that they are prevented from various forms of hazard that they will encounter in the course of their work. Chemical safety coordinator has the right to test the understanding and be aware that the employee has the required understanding of the use of the safety equipments, and when there are some doubts about the employee input then this employe must be subjected to additional training or retraining. Instances where retraining might be needed are changes in the type of personal protective equipment is to be used or changes in the workplace that might render the training that was carried out before training inadequacies and based on the affected areas which need changes in Personal Protective Equipment indicating that the employee has not retained the necessary understanding or skills. We have different types of personal protective equipment that these technicians might need:

Head Protection

There are various examples of head protection such as bump caps, hair nets and safety or helmets that protects against materials falling from a height, industrial scalp protectors protect from knocking against materials that falls from a height, (Brucewillis, 2010). They can also use them where they will exposed to electrical conductors which might expose them to electric shock and burn, especially where they are exposed to energized conductors which my come in contact with their head. Moreover they should use head protection where they are to work in confined spaces. Technicians must to keep themselves safe by wearing head protection and they are widely advised never to take for granted the head protection while undertaking their daily duties bearing the environment they are frequently in. Before the technician takes the head protective equipments, they should inspect any existing cracks, dents or any rough treatment. On realizing any damage, they…
